Philippine President arrives in Hanoi, begins State visit to Vietnam

This is the first visit to Vietnam by Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. since taking office.

Welcoming the delegation at Noi Bai International Airport were: Head of the Office of the President Le Khanh Hai; Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet; Vietnamese Ambassador to the Philippines Lai Thai Binh; and representatives of several departments and functional agencies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The delegation included: Mr. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, Speaker of the House of Representatives; Mr. Enrique A. Manalo, Secretary of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Francisco T. Laurel, Secretary of Agriculture; Mr. Alfredo E. Pascual, Secretary of Trade and Investment; Mr. Cheloy Velicaria Garafil, Chief of the Presidential Liaison Office; Mr. Eduardo M. Ano, Chairman of the National Security Council; Mr. Antonio Ernesto F. Lagdameo. Jr., Special Adviser to the President; Mr. Frederick D. Go, Presidential Adviser on Investment and Economic Affairs; Mr. Meynardo LB. Montealegre, Philippine Ambassador to Vietnam; Mr. Han Leo Cacdac, Undersecretary of the Department of Labor and Immigration; Mr. Victorino Mapa Manalo, Chairman of the National Commission on Culture and the Arts; Mr. Romeo Lumagui Jr., Commissioner of the Bureau of Internal Revenue; Mr. Ronie Gil L. Gavan, Commander of the Philippine Coast Guard; Mr. Maynard S.Ngu, Special Envoy of the President.

Head of the Office of the President Le Khanh Hai welcomed Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. and his wife at Noi Bai International Airport, Hanoi.

President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. was born on September 13, 1957, in Santa Mesa, Manila, Philippines. His professional qualifications include: Bachelor of Sociology, Oxford University, UK (1975 - 1978); Master of Business Administration, University of Pennsylvania, USA (1979 - 1981).

He has participated in political parties: Kilusang Bagong Lipunan Party (1980 - 2009); Nacionalista Party (2009 - 2021); Philippine Federalist Party (PFP) (2021 to present).

Mr. Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. has held the following positions: Vice Governor of Ilocos Norte Province (1981 - 1983); Governor of Ilocos Norte Province (1983 - 1986, 1998 - 2007); Member of Congress, Second District, Ilocos Norte Province (1992 - 1995, 2007 - 2010); Senator (July 2010 - May 2022); In May 2022, he was elected President of the Philippines.

Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. and his wife arrive at Noi Bai International Airport, Hanoi.

The visit of President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. affirms the solid strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Philippines, contributing to enhancing political trust, creating momentum to promote cooperation between the two countries, and contributing to strengthening solidarity and the central role of ASEAN.

According to Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang, the relationship between Vietnam and the Philippines has developed well in many areas. Political cooperation has been strengthened with many visits and high-level meetings and contacts.

Economic cooperation between the two countries has developed positively, with the Philippines being Vietnam's 6th largest trading partner in ASEAN and 16th in the world. The Philippines continues to be Vietnam's largest rice export market.

Cooperation in other important areas such as security - defense, education - training, culture, labor, and tourism continues to receive attention.

The two countries continue to maintain and closely coordinate at regional and international forums such as ASEAN, the United Nations, APEC...

During the visit, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos is expected to attend the official welcoming ceremony and hold talks with President Vo Van Thuong, meet with key Vietnamese leaders and participate in a number of other activities.
