Mi aircraft (including 4 Mi-17s and 1 Mi-171) of the Vietnam Air Force left Hoa Lac airport (Hanoi) for Bien Hoa airport (Dong Nai) to train for a parade, parading past the Independence Palace on April 30.
Towards the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), on February 28, Air Force Regiment 916, Air Force Division 371 - Air Defense - Air Force Service carried out a flight mission from Hoa Lac Airport (Hanoi) to Bien Hoa Airport (Dong Nai) to train for a parade flight, marching past the Independence Palace on April 30.
This special airport transfer had 5 helicopters of the unit participating in the parade in Ho Chi Minh City, including 4 Mi-17s with serial numbers 7839, 7840, 7844, 7845 and one Mi-171 with serial number Sar03 divided into 2 groups with 90 crew members including pilots, aviation technicians and ground technicians.
Due to the long flight from the North to the South with many important stops and different weather patterns, the soldiers participating in the mission determined that this was a challenging journey. Therefore, the inspection and maintenance of the aircraft were carried out more strictly than ever.
Captain Nguyen Van Huy - Pilot of Squadron 1, Regiment 916, Division 371, Air Defense - Air Force shared: "This is the first time I have made a long-distance flight from North to South to serve the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day. To complete the mission, we had to carefully study meteorology, flight techniques and flight routes".
Engines, reduction systems, and equipment are maintained at the highest level. In addition, coordination between intermediate airports is also closely implemented to promptly handle arising technical issues.
During the transfer to the South, the Army Command and Division 371 will monitor and command the mission.
Flight crew members undergo medical examination before performing missions.
"All the pilots in the flight crew are level 1 pilots, with the highest qualifications, flying in all weather conditions. The weather in the North is cold and foggy, but in the South there are sudden thunderstorms, so we need to be very focused. We are determined to carry out the assigned tasks well," said Lieutenant Colonel Tran Minh Phu - Deputy Commander of Air Force Regiment 916.
According to the plan, the helicopters of Air Force Regiment 916 will land at 4 locations before completing the journey at Bien Hoa airport (Dong Nai). After that, the pilots will participate in parade flight training, marching with the 2 helicopter regiments 917 and 930 to prepare for the parade in the sky of Ho Chi Minh City on April 30.
At the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, the Airborne Mechanization Force will perform two tasks: ensuring technical work in the air for the flight mission and raising the flag on the plane when parading over the stage. Each flag has an area of 20m2, the length of the flag rope is 8m and the weight of the flag stabilizer weighs 100kg.
