(LĐ online) - On the morning of February 28, the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of Lam Dong province held a conference to summarize activities in 2024, deploy directions and tasks in 2025, and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association (January 15, 1975 - January 15, 2025).

The Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of the province currently has more than 1,000 members, operating in 12/12 branches. In 2024, the Association achieved many positive results in consolidating and strengthening the Association's organization; People's foreign affairs activities were enhanced, contributing to strengthening the solidarity between the people of Vietnam and Laos.

Officials and members have actively carried out practical activities such as raising funds to support hunger eradication and poverty reduction; building a comradeship fund, promptly taking care of the lives and spirits of officials and members; responding to and participating in the movement "Eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses" in the period of 2024 - 2025 and supporting people in the northern provinces affected by storms and floods.

In foreign affairs, the Association has coordinated with agencies and units to organize many people-to-people exchange activities in Champasak, Bolykhamxay provinces and the capital Vientiane. Delegations of officials and members visited and presented 2 solidarity houses worth 200 million VND and 45 scholarships to poor students in the two provinces.

The Association regularly meets and presents gifts to Lao People’s Army officers studying at the Army Academy and Lao students at Dalat University. The Association also cooperates with organizations to sponsor 37 Lao students, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity and close ties between the two countries.

In recognition of the positive contributions to people-to-people diplomacy, the Central Committee of the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association awarded a Certificate of Merit to the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of Lam Dong Province. In addition, an individual was awarded the "Medal for Peace and Friendship among Nations" by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations.

At the Conference, delegates actively exchanged, discussed and contributed many ideas to strengthen the organization and improve the quality of the Association's activities. The ideas focused on developing members, promoting people-to-people diplomacy activities, and further promoting the Association's role in strengthening solidarity and friendship between the people of Vietnam and Laos.

On this occasion, the Association also admitted comrade Ndu Ha Bien - Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union to the Executive Committee of the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of the province; at the same time, admitted a new member.

Also within the framework of the Conference, the Association celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association. Delegates reviewed the history of the Association's formation and development and emphasized the traditional friendship, solidarity and close cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

Over the past 50 years, the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association has grown steadily, now present in 39/63 provinces and cities nationwide, of which 5/5 centrally-run cities and 10/10 border provinces bordering Laos have established the Association.
Some provinces and cities have developed the Association to the district and commune levels; at the same time, 10 agencies and organizations have also established branches or become members of the Association.

Associations in provinces and cities across the country have been actively operating, contributing to enhancing understanding between the people of the two countries, consolidating and developing the special friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
