Last night and early this morning, many signs prohibiting cars with 16 seats or more were posted at the beginnings of major streets entering the Old Quarter and around Hoan Kiem Lake during rush hour.

Along with the prohibition signs, the posts hanging the prohibition signs also state the prohibited time for vehicles with 16 seats or more: from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in the morning and from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the afternoon.

According to Tien Phong reporters this morning, the Old Quarter and Hoan Kiem Lake area has seen a decrease in the number of 16-seat passenger vans and large vehicles circulating and moving. For passengers, when passenger vans with 16 seats or more are banned from entering the Old Quarter, tourists here who want to catch a tour bus must walk or take a taxi or motorbike taxi to the transfer points where large passenger vans stop to get on.

Currently, there are 6 locations on the streets along the Old Quarter and around Hoan Kiem Lake that have been identified by the Transport - Police sectors as transit points to transport tourists when vehicles with 16 seats or more are banned.

In the Tran Khanh Du street area (the belt prohibits passenger cars from 16 seats), the transfer point is located in front of the History Museum.

The Transport and Police inter-sector said that the ban on passenger vehicles with 16 seats or more entering the Old Quarter and around Hoan Kiem Lake during rush hour will be piloted for 6 months, after which the inter-sector will review and evaluate for further adjustment or expansion.

The Hanoi Department of Transport and the City Police have agreed to implement a plan to ban cars with 16 seats or more from entering the Old Quarter (Hoan Kiem) during the morning and afternoon rush hours.

Accordingly, from March 1, 2025 to August 31, 2025 (6 months), the joint sector will ban vehicles with more than 16 seats (except buses and school buses) from circulating on streets in the Old Quarter and around Hoan Kiem Lake during morning rush hours (from 6:30 to 8:30) and afternoon rush hours (from 16:30 to 18:30).

The scope and boundaries of the streets to implement the ban include:

The first axis , the streets on the right of the perimeter axis: Dinh Tien Hoang street (section from Hang Dau to Hang Dao) - Hang Dao - Hang Ngang - Hang Duong - Dong Xuan - Hang Giay back into the Hanoi Old Quarter area;

Second axis , streets on the right side of the ring road: Hang Dau - Tran Nhat Duat (Hang Dau - Nguyen Huu Huan section) - Nguyen Huu Huan back into the Hanoi Old Quarter area;

Third axis , Quang Trung streets (section from Trang Thi to Nha Chung), Nha

Chung, Ly Quoc Su, Nha Tho, Hang Trong, Au Trieu, Bao Khanh, Hang Hanh alley, Bao Khanh alley.
