Muong Te develops OCOP products

In recent times, Muong Te district has taken many steps to build and develop OCOP products. From there, it has promoted the local socio-economic development, bringing a prosperous life to people in the border areas.

Muong Te is a mountainous border district, consisting of 14 communes and towns, with an economy mainly dependent on agriculture. In recent years, the district has focused on developing local products (crops, livestock), helping to form specialized commodity production areas in the direction of expanding the area. Restructuring the agricultural sector towards increasing added value in production, associated with new rural construction; actively applying science and technology to production to increase productivity and product quality, contributing to bringing practical results to the people.

OCOP 3-star chili products are displayed and promoted in Hanoi.

To develop OCOP products, every year, Muong Te district builds a plan for the One Commune One Product program; strengthens communication and brand promotion to increase value, contributing to the socio-economic development of the locality. Focuses on widely disseminating the content of the OCOP program through conferences and seminars at district, commune and village levels; meetings and conferences of social and professional organizations. Thereby, raising awareness, helping people understand the State's mechanisms and policies on the development of OCOP products; promoting, connecting product consumption and good practices, effective economic models. At the same time, creating conditions for production entities to participate in training courses on implementing the OCOP program deployed by the Central and the province; visiting and studying, exchanging and learning experiences in building OCOP product display points in other localities to apply in practice...

Mr. Tong Van Thi - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Muong Te district said: "Up to now, the whole district has 5 OCOP products achieving 3 stars including: Forest honey, climbing tea of ​​Binh An Cooperative; pickled chili, cardamom (Thanh Nga Cooperative); dried buffalo meat in Bum Nua (Thang Tue Cooperative). To achieve the above results, we have actively and widely promoted the purpose and meaning of the OCOP program to the masses; created favorable conditions for businesses, cooperatives and households to expand production scale, strengthen linkages to increase productivity and product quality; replicate effective production and business models in the locality to have more products participating in OCOP; well controlled the work of ensuring food safety and hygiene and environmental protection in production and business...".

In 2021, Thu Lum commune had 2 products that achieved 3-star OCOP certification, which were pickled chili and cardamom. Of which, pickled chili is one of the OCOP products that many people love because of its spiciness and very characteristic flavor, grown and cared for by local people, ensuring food safety factors.

Mr. Le Van Thanh - Director of Thanh Nga Cooperative shared: “After receiving the 3-star OCOP certification, the Regiment chili products have built trust with customers inside and outside the province from the quality to the product design. To solve the output for the people as well as bring the Regiment chili to all regions of the country, from May to September every year, the Cooperative collects chili from the villagers, on average each month collecting nearly 500 kg of chili, with the price at the beginning and end of the season from 200-250 thousand VND/kg, the main season is about 150 thousand VND/kg. Each year, the Cooperative collects nearly 2 tons of chili, mainly sold to grocery stores and restaurants in the province and Hanoi. Responding to the program of each commune having 1 product registered for the OCOP program, organized by the Provincial and District People's Committees, the Cooperative has built a development roadmap and strived to bring the product to participate in the OCOP program from 2017 to now has achieved 3 stars".

Implementing the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program has helped cooperatives and households in Muong Te district access scientific production and business management methods, encourage creativity, improve product designs and packaging, and increase the value of agricultural products. From there, it promotes production expansion, and sales of people with OCOP products with stars increase. In 2022, Muong Te district has 2 products expected to participate in provincial-level evaluation and ranking, including: Taro in 2 communes: Nam Khao and Kan Ho; PuSilung wine in Zone 1, Muong Te town.

In the coming time, Muong Te district will continue to promote the dissemination of OCOP products associated with the implementation of new rural construction. Encourage households and cooperatives to boldly invest in production and develop local advantageous products. At the same time, transform the structure of crops and livestock, form key commodity production areas, create sustainable raw material areas for product processing, create conditions for developing production according to the value chain.
