On February 25, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary To Lam received Timor-Leste President Jose Ramos-Horta on the occasion of his visit to attend the 2nd ASEAN Future Forum in Hanoi.

On the morning of February 25, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary To Lam received President of Timor-Leste Jose Ramos-Horta on the occasion of the President's attendance at the 2nd ASEAN Future Forum in Hanoi (from February 25-26, 2025).

The General Secretary warmly welcomed the President of Timor-Leste to return to Vietnam (after a State visit in August 2024) in the context that Vietnam has successfully completed many development goals of the 13th National Party Congress and prepared for the 14th National Party Congress, bringing the country into a new era, becoming a developed, high-income country on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of National Day (2045).

The General Secretary congratulated Timor-Leste on its many important achievements in socio-economic development; he believed that Timor-Leste would soon implement the "Strategic Development Plan for the 2011-2030 period" with the determination to build a democratic country, actively integrating into the region and the world.

President Jose Ramos-Horta expressed his admiration for the national construction and development of the Vietnamese leaders and people; considered Vietnam a development model; affirmed that Timor-Leste values ​​and wishes to further promote the good friendship with Vietnam.

The two leaders expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the results of the President's State visit: bilateral trade turnover in 2024 increased by 21.4% compared to 2023; the visa exemption agreement for diplomatic and official passport holders took effect; investment and business activities of Viettel Telecommunications Group (Telemor) have actively contributed to the economic and social development of Timor-Leste.

Discussing major cooperation directions in the coming time, the two sides agreed to increase exchanges and contacts at high and all levels; move towards establishing new bilateral mechanisms, suitable to the cooperation needs between the two countries; effectively exploit the potential for cooperation in other important fields, especially agriculture, fisheries, food processing, seafood, telecommunications, education, oil and gas, infrastructure construction, aviation, energy, education, culture, tourism and people-to-people exchange...

At the reception, thanking General Secretary To Lam for sharing valuable experience in Vietnam's development and international integration, President Jose Ramos-Horta agreed to closely coordinate to create new changes in economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries; expand cooperation in areas with great potential such as: investment, finance, agriculture, infrastructure construction, including industrial parks, airports, seaports, tourism, information and communications...; support Vietnam's proposal on cooperation, grasp and take advantage of new trends for development.

President Jose Ramos-Horta thanked and hoped that Vietnam would continue to share experiences and support Timor-Leste in developing human resources, ensuring food security, and reducing poverty.

Discussing regional and international issues of mutual concern, the two sides agreed to continue to strengthen cooperation and support each other at international and regional organizations.

General Secretary To Lam highly appreciated Timor-Leste's determination and efforts in implementing the Roadmap for Timor-Leste to become a full member of ASEAN, affirming that Vietnam supports Timor-Leste to soon become a full member of ASEAN.

The President of Timor-Leste affirmed that Timor-Leste fully supports Vietnam's candidacy at multilateral mechanisms, including United Nations agencies./.
