The General Secretary congratulated FedEx Corporation on its remarkable development, becoming one of the world's leading transportation corporations and playing an important role in the global supply chain.
The General Secretary highly appreciated the group's achievements in its operations in Vietnam over the past 30 years, and thanked the Chairman and FedEx Group for their sentiments and contributions to Vietnam's socio-economic development.
The General Secretary assessed that the Vietnam-US relationship has made strong progress in recent times, especially in 2025 when the two countries celebrate the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations and recently upgraded the relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
General Secretary To Lam shared that Vietnam is promoting three strategic breakthroughs, including infrastructure breakthroughs. Accordingly, the General Secretary affirmed his support for FedEx to continue expanding its operations in Vietnam in its strengths such as infrastructure, services, and transportation; contributing to the global supply chain and making Vietnam an important hub in the international logistics network.
The General Secretary asked FedEx to cooperate closely with relevant Vietnamese agencies to quickly and effectively implement the plan to expand its business operations in Vietnam.
The General Secretary shared that 2025 is a very important year for Vietnam to prepare to enter a breakthrough development period. Accordingly, the General Secretary hopes that FedEx will prioritize the Vietnamese market, and at the same time, Vietnam will also prioritize partners with whom it has had a long-term cooperation process such as FedEx.
For his part, Mr. Smith expressed his emotion at being able to return and witness firsthand the strong development and vitality of the country and people of Vietnam.
He was particularly impressed by Vietnam's development achievements, especially the strong development of infrastructure, as well as its particularly favorable geographical location, important factors that put Vietnam firmly on the path to becoming a dynamic economic center of the region.
Mr. Smith affirmed that FedEx Corporation is proud to have contributed to the development of Vietnam over the past 3 decades. He believes that Vietnam has all the elements to become an important logistics center of the region and the world.
On that basis, FedEx expressed its desire to further expand its operations in Vietnam, continue to develop operations at Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai airports, as well as study expanding operations at Long Thanh and Gia Binh airports in the near future, thereby supporting Vietnam's economy to improve its transportation capacity and connect with the global supply chain.
On the occasion of Vietnamese Doctors' Day, February 27, General Secretary To Lam expressed his gratitude for FedEx Corporation's support in implementing support and treatment programs for many heart and eye patients in Vietnam over the years.
In particular, the General Secretary highly appreciated FedEx Corporation's sponsorship of St. Judes Children's Hospital in cooperation with the National Oncology Hospital and the Children's Hospital in treating childhood cancer over the past many years. The General Secretary assessed that this was a very meaningful activity, helping to improve health care for many children and their families in Vietnam.
The General Secretary expressed his hope that FedEx Corporation and the hospital, with their strengths in treating children's cancer, would continue to expand this very practical area of cooperation, especially helping Vietnamese hospitals develop the specialty of treating children's cancer.
Mr. Smith affirmed that FedEx always wishes to contribute to the socio-economic development in Vietnam and is honored to be a bridge to promote and further enhance the cooperation between St. Judes Children's Hospital and Vietnamese hospitals.
He affirmed that immediately after returning home, he will discuss with the leadership of St. Judes Children's Hospital to plan specific support, with the hope of raising the cure rate of pediatric patients in Vietnam to 94% like in the United States.
