General Secretary: Bringing Vietnam-New Zealand relations into a new stage of development

The General Secretary was pleased to see the reliable development of Vietnam-New Zealand political relations, which is the foundation for the two countries to enhance comprehensive cooperation in all fields.

On the afternoon of February 26, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary To Lam received New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, President of the New Zealand National Party, on the occasion of the Prime Minister's official visit to Vietnam and attendance at the second ASEAN Future Forum.

At the meeting, General Secretary To Lam welcomed Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and the high-ranking delegation of New Zealand on an official visit to Vietnam on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations (1975-2025).

The General Secretary thanked Prime Minister Luxon for his kind remarks about Vietnam and the bilateral relationship, and highly appreciated New Zealand's foreign policy of always attaching importance to connecting with the Southeast Asian region.

The General Secretary was pleased to see the reliable development of Vietnam-New Zealand political relations, which is the foundation for the two countries to enhance comprehensive cooperation in all fields.

The General Secretary highly appreciated the results of the talks between the two Prime Ministers, especially the issuance of the Joint Statement upgrading the Vietnam-New Zealand relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, demonstrating the remarkable development and deep strategic trust between the two countries, creating a solid framework to bring the bilateral relationship into a new stage of development.

The General Secretary assessed that defense and security cooperation has developed positively, clearly demonstrating the responsibility of the two countries for peace and stability in the region; he suggested that the two countries continue to promote economic and trade cooperation, and propose specific strategies to enhance connectivity between the two economies.

The General Secretary also highly appreciated New Zealand as a country with good administration and governance, an advanced and modern economy, science, technology and education, which are areas that Vietnam is in great need of in its development process.

The General Secretary thanked the New Zealand Government for providing scholarships to Vietnamese students; shared that New Zealand is becoming a trusted and favorite destination for Vietnamese students to choose to study and research; emphasized that educational cooperation has been contributing to consolidating and deepening the friendship between the two peoples.

The New Zealand Prime Minister congratulated and expressed his appreciation for Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements; believing that under the wise leadership of the General Secretary and Vietnamese leaders, Vietnam will successfully achieve the goal of becoming a developed country by 2045.

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon expressed his gratitude for the General Secretary's affection and attention to New Zealand in particular and the Vietnam-New Zealand relationship in general; and expressed his emotion at the warm welcome that the Party, Government and people of Vietnam gave to the Prime Minister personally as well as the New Zealand delegation.

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon emphasized that with its strengths, New Zealand wishes to accompany and support Vietnam in achieving its socio-economic development goals in the coming time; expressed readiness to welcome more Vietnamese students, scientists and researchers to New Zealand to study and conduct research.

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon also hopes to further promote tourism, trade and investment cooperation and connections between the business community.

The two leaders expressed their agreement on the directions for developing relations in the new period; believing that the new Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework will bring great common benefits, contributing to peace and development in the region and the world.

The two leaders agreed to cooperate more closely on regional and international issues. General Secretary To Lam thanked New Zealand for always supporting Vietnam and ASEAN's stance on the East Sea issue, affirming that Vietnam is ready to cooperate and support New Zealand in further strengthening relations with ASEAN and moving towards upgrading the ASEAN-New Zealand dialogue relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Luxon respectfully invited the General Secretary to visit New Zealand in the near future. The General Secretary thanked him and assigned the two sides to make arrangements through diplomatic channels./.
