- Reporter: Could you please tell us about the meaning of the birth of Vietnamese Doctors' Day, February 27?
Dr. Huynh Minh Phuc: 70 years ago, on February 27, 1955, President Ho Chi Minh wrote a letter to the National Conference of Medical Staff, encouraging Vietnamese physicians to follow the slogan "A good doctor is like a mother", to strive to build a medical foundation with the motto "Science - Nationality - Mass", to serve the revolutionary cause and take care of people's health.
Because of the profound meaning of this letter, on February 6, 1985, the Council of Ministers decided that February 27 every year is Vietnam Doctors' Day to promote the responsibility and virtue of "both red and professional" of medical staff in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. Thus, according to the history of Vietnam Doctors' Day and the origin of February 27, 2025 is the 70th anniversary of Vietnam Doctors' Day.
- Reporter: Studying and following Uncle Ho's words "A good doctor is like a mother", how is the provincial health sector striving, Doctor?
Dr. Huynh Minh Phuc: Through the time of efforts to build and develop the system, the provincial health sector takes the content of his teachings as the core ideology in all activities. Following those teachings, each doctor always actively studies, cultivates, improves professional qualifications, always knows how to enrich his own intelligence, improve medical ethics as well as responsibility to patients.
Currently, the total public health workforce is 5,012, including 1,669 doctors. Many beautiful, dedicated, wholehearted, and devoted examples of serving patients have blossomed in the career of caring for and protecting people's health. The whole province has 1 People's Physician (PhD, MD Vo Thi De) and 72 Excellent Physicians.
- Reporter: Doctor, how has the health sector implemented the campaign and emulation movement to study and follow Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style in recent times?
Dr. Huynh Minh Phuc: In order for studying and following Uncle Ho's example to become more and more profound and become a habit, the industry has promoted propaganda work on the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, and resolutions of Party congresses at all levels; implemented study plans and written commitments to strive to "Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality, and lifestyle".

- Reporter: Doctor, could you tell us some of the outstanding results that the health sector has achieved in recent times?
Dr. Huynh Minh Phuc: Promoting the glorious tradition of the past 70 years, the provincial health sector has always overcome all difficulties and strived to successfully complete the work of taking care of people's health. The preventive health network, medical examination and treatment facilities, professional qualifications of medical staff, doctors, health researchers, etc. have all developed steadily. Along with that, the capacity to prevent and combat dangerous and emerging epidemics has been improved. The work of organizing admission and treatment for patients has achieved remarkable results.
The highlight of the 2020-2025 term is the effective implementation of Covid-19 prevention and control work, contributing to bringing people's lives back to a "new normal" soon; infrastructure and medical human resources at the grassroots level have been invested in construction and training; Long An General Hospital has been upgraded from a grade 2 hospital to a grade 1 hospital; the College of Medicine has been established to meet the urgent need for high-quality medical human resources.
In 2024 alone, the health sector will achieve and exceed 10/10 basic health targets, of which 5/10 targets will be exceeded. The number of doctors per 10,000 people will reach 9.5 (target 9.5). The rate of people participating in health insurance will reach 94.27% (target 94%).
The rate of stunting (height-for-age) in children under 5 years old reached 17.2% (target 17.2%). Infectious diseases were well controlled, no major epidemics occurred. The total number of medical examinations in the province was 2,870,747, an increase of 8% over the same period in 2023.
In addition, the industry focuses on promoting the application of information technology and digital transformation in state management, medical examination and treatment activities; firmly maintaining the replacement birth rate, contributing to improving population quality./.
