The General Secretary and President hoped that the Future Summit would bring new thinking and new ways of doing things for the future of the world and suggested focusing on discussing transformative solutions.

Responding to the initiative of President of the Republic of Namibia Nangolo Mbumba and Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Olaf Scholz, on September 12, General Secretary and President To Lam sent a recorded message to the Global Call for the Future Summit, held online right before the United Nations Future Summit (September 22-23, 2024).
The event was attended by General Assembly President Philemon Yang, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and nearly 50 heads of state and government of United Nations member states.
Speaking at the event, the UN Secretary-General emphasized the historical significance of the Future Summit and expressed his hope that the documents expected to be adopted at the Summit will be an important foundation to guide cooperation of the UN system in the coming time.
The message from the leaders of the countries affirmed their strong support for the Future Summit and expected that the Summit would agree on specific solutions and actions to strengthen peace, cooperation and accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
In his message, General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that the Future Summit is an opportunity for the United Nations and multilateralism to affirm irreplaceable values in the face of great challenges of the times.
The General Secretary and President hoped that the Conference would bring new thinking and new ways of doing things for the future of the world and suggested focusing on discussing transformative solutions, including transformation in science, technology and innovation, green transformation and transformation of global governance.
Regarding science and technology, the General Secretary and President emphasized the leading role of the United Nations in establishing a legal framework and supporting countries in developing new and pioneering technologies such as digital technology, artificial intelligence and automation in a safe, fair, useful and inclusive manner.
Regarding green transformation, the General Secretary and President proposed studying the establishment of a global forum for ASEAN and other regional organizations to share experiences and promote green technology.
Regarding global governance, the General Secretary and President hopes to promote the reform of the United Nations and multilateral financial institutions to more effectively respond to global challenges and better mobilize resources to support developing countries.
On this occasion, the General Secretary and President affirmed that Vietnam is committed to actively contributing to the Future Summit and joint efforts to strengthen international peace, cooperation and solidarity, contributing to the effective implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, so that people can fully enjoy the fruits of development and prepare for future generations.
The Future Summit is the United Nations' flagship multilateral event in 2024.
With the theme "Multilateral Solutions for a Better Future," the Conference is held with the aim of promoting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and climate goals, unifying solutions to global challenges, and strengthening global governance. The Conference is expected to adopt documents guiding the activities of the United Nations system.
The Global Call for the Future Summit is an initiative of the President of the Republic of Namibia and the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, the two countries that co-chaired the negotiation process of the documents of the Future Summit.
This event aims to create momentum for the Future Summit, taking place on September 22-23, 2024 at the United Nations./.
