On October 15, the Ministry of National Defense held a press conference to introduce the 2nd Vietnam - Laos Border Defense Friendship Exchange.

General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense, led the Vietnamese delegation and General Chansamone Chanyalath, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Laos, led the Lao delegation to attend the exchange.

Further promoting the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos

Colonel Tong Van Thanh, Deputy Director of the Propaganda Department, General Department of Politics, said this activity contributes to promoting and strengthening the special solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

"This activity contributes to maintaining a peaceful, stable and developing environment in the region and the world, practically celebrating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of National Defense Day," Colonel Tong Van Thanh emphasized.

Within the framework of the exchange, many activities will take place in Vietnam and Laos such as greeting, painting border markers, planting friendship trees, witnessing joint patrols, and visiting joint exercises to coordinate in catching cross-border criminals.

Besides, there were also activities to inaugurate the classrooms of Long Sap Primary and Secondary Boarding School, talks between the delegations of the two countries and signing of cooperation documents; visit and present gifts to Pa Hang Primary and Secondary School, exchange of political work and young military officers of the two countries in the form of dramatization, live broadcast on Vietnam Television...

Lieutenant Colonel Bui Van Manh, representative of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of National Defense, informed at the meeting.

Many new points in exchange activities

At the meeting, representatives of the Foreign Affairs Department and Border Guard said that this exchange had many new points in the way activities were organized.

This time, the two sides will organize a joint exercise to fight and arrest cross-border criminals, ensuring security and safety in the border area (the first time could not be organized due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

This is one of the very important cooperation contents between the border protection forces of the two countries.

Another new point in this exchange is the exchange of political work and young military officers of the two countries in the form of dramatization.

Speaking at the meeting, Colonel Viengxay Soulivong, Lao Defense Attaché in Vietnam, emphasized that the 2nd Vietnam-Laos Border Defense Friendship Exchange is an opportunity for the people of the two countries to see the role and importance of defense work and the contributions of the two countries' military forces in helping to ensure stability and development in the border area.

The 2nd Vietnam - Laos Border Defense Friendship Exchange is one of the key defense diplomacy events of the Vietnam People's Army in 2024.

This is a meaningful activity in many aspects, contributing to promoting and strengthening the special solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Laos.
