Quang Tri province and investors plan to start construction of a coal conveyor belt across the border between Vietnam and Laos, more than 6km long, with an investment capital of nearly VND1,500 billion in the first quarter of 2025.

On the morning of December 5, the Office of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province announced the conclusion of the acting chairman of the People's Committee of the province, Ha Sy Dong, on the coal conveyor project proposed for investment by Nam Tien Company Limited.

Accordingly, Mr. Ha Sy Dong requested the investor to urgently provide documents, files and explanatory reports to the Department of Transport to complete the appraisal of the project's feasibility study report before December 10, and at the same time complete the dossier to change the purpose of forest use to another purpose to implement the next steps.
The Chairman assigned the Department of Transport and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to guide and support investors in completing documents to ensure legal conditions according to regulations to start the project in the first quarter of 2025.
This is a coal conveyor project across the border between Vietnam and Laos.
The coal conveyor belt is more than 6.1km long, starting at La Lay international border gate in Sa Muoi district, Salavan province, Laos, and ending at A Ngo commune (Dakrong district, Quang Tri).
Most of this project is located in Vietnam, with a total investment of nearly 1,500 billion VND, and a phase 1 capacity of 15 million tons/year.
Nam Tien Company Limited said that the coal storage yard is being invested in and built in the area near La Lay international border gate (Laos side) with an area of about 20 hectares, including 2 closed warehouses; coal storage yard; coal receiving system from cars to warehouse, storage yard; coal receiving system from warehouse to conveyor.

Project to motivate the province
The project of conveyor belt transporting coal from Laos to Vietnam through La Lay border gate aims to increase capacity and efficiency of coal transport, reduce the burden on National Highway 15D and limit the impact of coal transport activities on the environment.
The project coming into operation will bring many benefits, creating momentum for the development of businesses and Quang Tri province.
The investor commits to arrange sufficient financial resources to implement the investment project, ensuring efficiency and compliance with current regulations.
In the first 10 months of 2024, La Lay international border gate cleared 1.7 million tons of coal, paying 370 billion VND in taxes.
