Regularly posting videos of cooking Vietnamese dishes on her personal channel on TikTok, Diamond Logan (24 years old, in Chicago, Illinois, USA) quickly received a lot of attention from users in Vietnam.
From simple to complex dishes such as vermicelli with fermented shrimp paste, braised pork, even beef pho, blood pudding..., Logan can prepare them all by himself. Even the accompanying ingredients such as herbs, chopped green onions, sweet and sour fish sauce... are meticulously prepared by Logan.
American girl skillfully cooks many Vietnamese dishes that cause a stir online
Under each video, many Vietnamese people left comments expressing their interest and admiration for the American girl’s cooking ability, which is not inferior to that of a native. They commented that the dishes she cooked were very similar to the “original version” and had an attractive and neat appearance.
- I am Vietnamese but after watching him cook, I feel guilty because he is more talented and skillful than me.
- The way he prepares ingredients and seasonings is no different from Vietnamese people. You must be passionate and love Vietnamese cuisine to be able to do that.
- After watching her cook, I felt so self-conscious, I had to look at myself. I'm over 30 years old but can only cook a few simple dishes like boiled vegetables, boiled meat and fried eggs.

Sharing with VietNamNet reporter , Logan said that the Vietnamese dishes that she personally prepared were the result of short-term cooking "courses" taught by Truong Giang (25 years old) - her Vietnamese boyfriend.
Giang was born and raised in Hanoi, then moved to the US in 2015. The couple met in 2020 and currently live together in Chicago.
“When we moved in together, I started learning and practicing cooking Vietnamese dishes. In addition to the knowledge my boyfriend taught me, I also learned more online. Partly because I have a passion for exploring cuisine, and partly because I wanted to help my boyfriend ease his homesickness when he couldn’t return to Vietnam to visit his family due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic,” Logan said.

The first Vietnamese dish Logan learned to cook was banh chung. After that, she boldly practiced many other dishes such as banh cuon, cha nem, grilled meat, braised meat...
Even the "difficult" dishes that not every Vietnamese person can make such as beef noodle soup, crab noodle soup, vermicelli with tofu and shrimp paste, duck blood pudding..., the American girl successfully conquered them all.
“When Giang was busy and couldn’t give instructions, I researched recipes I found online, cooked them in the kitchen, and then asked my boyfriend to taste them and give his opinion. It wasn’t until October 2022, when I had the opportunity to go to Hanoi with him, that I truly understood more about the cuisine here thanks to the enthusiastic guidance of my boyfriend’s parents.
They introduced me to many unique ingredients as well as shared recipes, cooking experiences and how to season spices to suit the standard Vietnamese flavor,” Logan revealed.
The American girl skillfully cooks many typical dishes of Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general such as La Vong fish cake, spring rolls with grilled pork, duck blood pudding...
10X admitted that the support from her boyfriend's family helped her "improve" her cooking skills, confidently preparing some complicated Vietnamese dishes. Among them, there are many dishes that both Logan and Giang love such as La Vong fish cakes, vermicelli soup, and banh chung.
“The practical cooking experience that my boyfriend’s parents taught me was very useful. I found that the dishes learned from them actually tasted much more appealing than the dishes I had prepared before,” the young woman added.

In addition to his passion and natural talent, Logan now feels confident in his ability to cook Vietnamese dishes.
She often cooks Vietnamese dishes herself to treat her boyfriend who lives far away from home. This is also a way for the couple to bond and understand each other better, contributing to preserving, maintaining and promoting the unique traditional culinary culture.
“The feeling of waking up every day with a new opportunity to learn makes me very happy and proud. Now I have a deeper understanding of Vietnamese food, know which dish needs which ingredients and when to use spices, and how much to season,” Logan happily expressed.
The 24-year-old girl also said that in Chicago there are many stores selling Vietnamese ingredients and food, so they have no difficulty when they want to cook. However, the flavor can hardly compare to dishes cooked in Vietnam with full ingredients and spices.
“We are also willing to go anywhere to find the necessary ingredients, so that the dish has the most standard flavor,” she added.
