The 7th meeting between the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam and the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland

NDO - On December 29, in Ho Chi Minh City, the 7th meeting between the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Fatherland took place on the implementation of projects to build, renovate and embellish the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument in Cambodia.

The Vietnamese delegation was led by Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, and Deputy Minister of National Defense. Leaders of agencies under the Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Planning and Investment, and Military Region 7 attended the meeting.

The Cambodian delegation was led by Mr. Nhem Valy, Permanent Vice President and General Secretary of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland, Chairman of the Committee for the Restoration and Rehabilitation of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument.

At the seminar, the two sides evaluated the results of coordination in directing the implementation of projects in the past time; agreed on the direction and content of coordination in the coming time.

Accordingly, the two sides highly appreciated the results achieved according to the contents of the Minutes of the 6th Session, signed on December 27, 2023, in Ho Chi Minh City; implementing projects to ensure progress and good results.

At the same time, he affirmed: The Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Fatherland coordinate closely in surveying and assessing the current status of management and protection of Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monuments in the Kingdom of Cambodia; researching, designing, making estimates, and reporting appraisals in accordance with regulations; regularly exchanging and agreeing on measures for effective implementation; actively inspecting and urging agencies, units, and localities to deploy the construction, renovation, and embellishment of Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monuments.

Mr. Nhem Valy, Permanent Vice President and Secretary General of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland, spoke at the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nhem Valy, Permanent Vice President and General Secretary of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland, said: Since 2015, Vietnam has provided funding for Cambodia to carry out 24 projects to build, renovate and embellish the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument and repair and upgrade the headquarters of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland.

With the efforts of both sides, all projects have been completed, including two new construction projects in Tboung Khmum and Svay Rieng provinces, and funding support for the road to the Friendship Monument in Siem Reap province.

Currently, Vietnam continues to provide funding for the restoration and renovation of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument in Pursat , Mondulkiri, and Prey Veng provinces.

Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong, member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of National Defense, sincerely thanked the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland and the localities and people of Cambodia for creating all favorable conditions for the effective construction, renovation and embellishment of the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Monuments in the Kingdom of Cambodia.

In the coming time, the two sides will continue to effectively implement the contents signed at the meetings between the two sides; closely coordinate and direct the acceleration of the project to build, renovate and embellish the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Monuments in the Kingdom of Cambodia to ensure progress, quality and efficiency.

Continue to review the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Monuments built in Cambodia that need to be renovated and embellished, and report to the competent authorities of each country for consideration and decision, in accordance with the content agreed upon at meetings between the two sides.

The two sides continued to affirm that the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monuments in the Kingdom of Cambodia are historical and cultural works representing the relationship between the two countries; therefore, they need to be strictly managed and protected, and proposed that the two governments sign a Memorandum of Agreement on the protection of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monuments in the Kingdom of Cambodia.
