COMMEMORATING 50 YEARS SINCE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE 93RD INFANTRY REGIMENT (March 25, 1975 - March 25, 2025)
Regardless of the stage or the mission, generations of officers and soldiers of the 93rd Infantry Regiment have always demonstrated willpower, determination, and courage; wherever they go, they win, and whatever they accomplish, they succeed.
A glorious victory
Fifty years ago, on March 25, 1975, in Xuan My village (Phuoc Hiep commune, Tuy Phuoc district), the 5th Military Region Command decided to establish the 93rd Infantry Regiment based on the core independent battalions of Binh Dinh province, including: the 50th Infantry Battalion, the 52nd Infantry Battalion, the 8th Infantry Battalion, and the 73rd Artillery Battalion.
The regiment's mission was to urgently prepare in all aspects— political , ideological, food, supplies, and sufficient equipment—to launch the General Offensive campaign under the slogan "all for the front line, all for victory."
Immediately after its formation, the Regiment proactively coordinated with the military and people of the Eastern region and Quy Nhon town to attack and liberate Quy Nhon town on March 31st, liberating Binh Dinh province. Subsequently, over 300 officers and soldiers of the Regiment were assigned to main units participating in the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign to liberate Saigon, completely liberate the South, and bring the war against the US to a decisive victory.
After liberation, the officers and soldiers of the Regiment continued to go to the Central Highlands to carry out new tasks such as hunting down the Fulro rebels, training new recruits, and engaging in economic activities . When the Southwest border war broke out in 1979, Regiment 93 was transferred to the 2nd Division (Military Region 5) to continue its international mission assisting Cambodia. After completing its international duty, the Regiment was transferred to the 307th Division and remains there to this day, currently stationed in Quang Ngai province…
In any extremely difficult and harsh circumstances, the officers and soldiers of the 93rd Infantry Regiment always remained steadfast, participating in extremely fierce battles, achieving exceptionally outstanding victories, and contributing to writing an immortal epic of fervent patriotism.
With exceptionally outstanding achievements in combat, units of the 93rd Infantry Regiment such as the 50th Battalion and the 52nd Battalion were awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the President of Vietnam; the Regiment was also awarded two Military Merit Orders...

Deep camaraderie and fellowship.
The soldiers of yesteryear are no longer young; some are battling injuries, illnesses, and chronic ailments. But when they reunited at the ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the founding of the 93rd Infantry Regiment, held in Quy Nhon City on March 23rd, the "soldierly spirit" of these veterans remained as vibrant as when they fought on the battlefield... The reunion, though brief, was filled with camaraderie and fellowship.
In 1976, veteran Ly Van Muoi (71 years old, residing in Nhon Tan commune, An Nhon town) enlisted in Company 2, Battalion 7, 93rd Infantry Regiment. Mr. Muoi recounted that in April 1977, the Regiment was ordered to Dak Lak and placed under the command of Group 333 to engage in economic activities. In just six years (1976-1982), officers, soldiers, and staff of Group 333 reclaimed 10,780 hectares of land, built five water reservoirs and fish farms, constructed 90 km of gravel roads; built numerous workshops, stations, and public service facilities; established mechanical and carpentry workshops; and processed sugar and alcohol. "In particular, we also carried out the task of being ready for combat, ensuring the safety of a vast area; destroying the bases of the reactionary FULRO forces, contributing to fulfilling the task of directly supporting the southwestern border battlefield during the years when the country entered a new phase of fighting to drive out the invading enemy," Mr. Mười recalled.
Speaking about his years serving alongside his comrades in the regiment on international missions to assist Cambodia, veteran Thai Ngo Ha (64 years old, Thang Binh district, Quang Nam province) shared: "Those were years of 'sharing life, sharing death,' a sacred and profound camaraderie. Death is certainly frightening, but if everyone is afraid of death, who will go to battle? We asked ourselves that question and always encouraged each other to fight the enemy!"
Each time they meet, seeing their comrades still healthy, the wounds that have tormented the veterans of Regiment 93 for so many years seem to disappear. Having traveled over 1,000 km to Binh Dinh to meet his comrades, veteran Pham Van Vinh (65 years old, from Thuy Nguyen City, Hai Phong City) emotionally expressed: “Today’s reunion is truly meaningful, because some comrades who were separated for many years are finally meeting again. Today, we get to relive a past full of hardship and sacrifice, but also one filled with immense pride.”
