Launching the My Son Heritage Community Bai Choi Singing Performance Team

Creating livelihoods for people while preserving and promoting heritage values

The My Son Cultural Heritage Management Board (My Son Cultural Heritage Management Board) said that the Bai Choi singing performance team of the My Son heritage community has officially launched an art product to serve visitors to the temple complex.

Previously, the Bai Choi singing game was also held on the occasion of the Lunar New Year and received many compliments from domestic and foreign tourists.

Not only is this a traditional Tet folk game, this activity also makes viewers especially moved when they listen to the rustic antiphonal songs, containing the quintessence of Quang Nam folk culture, right in the mysterious space of My Son temple tower.

Since UNESCO recognized the art of Bài Chòi in Central Vietnam as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2017, the people of Duy Xuyen and Quang Nam have made constant efforts to preserve and promote this art. Currently, the My Son community has been actively preserving and teaching the art of Bài Chòi, contributing to the preservation of the national cultural heritage.

According to Mr. Nguyen Cong Khiet, Director of My Son Cultural Heritage Management Board, the Bai Choi singing performance team consists of 6 members who are local people, operating independently with a self-funded model.

The Management Board provided initial funding for them to purchase equipment and maintain operations for 6 months. The program takes place every Saturday and Sunday in the lobby of the My Son Museum, with 6 performances each day, each lasting 15 minutes.

The establishment of a performance team not only helps preserve and promote the cultural values of Bài Chòi but also shares the benefits of heritage with the local community, contributing to socio-economic development and diversifying tourism products.

Mr. Khiet said that in addition to the task of preserving heritage, the Management Board always determines that creating livelihoods for local people is also an important part of managing and promoting the value of the relic site.

The area surrounding My Son, including the bordering communes and surrounding areas, possesses favorable natural, historical and cultural factors for developing community tourism.

Notable destinations such as Thach Ban Dam, An Hoa Industrial Zone, Duc Duc Airport and An Hoa Pagoda all have potential for tourism development. At the same time, traditional customs and festivals bearing the strong imprint of the Cham-Vietnamese cultural exchange further enhance the unique cultural value of the area.

Developing community tourism not only creates livelihoods for local people but also helps preserve and promote the value of the My Son World Cultural Heritage. This is a form of benefit sharing, with responsibility not only for management units but also for local authorities, businesses and communities.

In recent times, thanks to international cooperation programs and policies to support people's livelihoods, the economy and heritage education, people's awareness has changed positively, while at the same time fostering pride in cultural heritage.

Sustainable path for economic development

Community tourism not only brings benefits in sustainable economic development for local residents but also helps protect ecological resources and preserve unique cultural values. This is a model that is increasingly focused on and promoted at My Son Relic Site and surrounding areas.

Tourism development projects implemented by the My Son Heritage Management Board in coordination with the Duy Xuyen District People's Committee aim to take advantage of available potential to transform industries, create jobs, contribute to local economic development, and at the same time preserve traditional cultural values.

The My Son Heritage Management Board has increased investment in infrastructure, improved service quality and implemented tourism promotion activities, including advertising and linking with tourist attractions, travel businesses and the press.

In the coming time, the Management Board will cooperate with local people and travel agencies to pilot My Son tours combined with community tourism in the surrounding areas.

At the same time, new tourism products are also being researched, including daily tours to My Son temple complex and Cham music and dance performances, or specialized tours to study Cham and Sa Huynh culture.

With such programs, community tourism is not only an economic activity but also a bridge between the past and the present, helping the people of My Son and surrounding areas join hands to preserve heritage and develop a sustainable economy.
