On July 1, in Song Doc town, Tran Van Thoi district, Ca Mau province, the commander of Radar Station 615, Regiment 551, Naval Region 5 Command visited and presented gifts to the charity class on Hon Chuoi island.
The commander of Radar Station 615 kindly visited the students' lives, activities and academic achievements; hoping that they would continue to make efforts and achieve high results in their studies. The unit presented the charity class with household electrical appliances such as fans and LED bulbs.
Captain Nguyen Van Duc, Political Commissar of Radar Station 615 shared: "The gift is small but contains the affection of the officers and soldiers of the Station for the students, wishing to share some of the difficulties and create motivation for them to strive to study well."
Also on this occasion, the journey "Youth for the sea and islands of the homeland" organized by the Central Youth Union presented 32 scholarships, 50 cartons of milk, 1 television, 5 tablets and many other school supplies to the students of the Hon Chuoi Island charity class.
The Hon Chuoi Island Charity Class was opened in 1995, taught by teachers in green uniforms from the Hon Chuoi Border Guard Station. Currently, the class has 32 students from grades 1 to 7 and has been recognized as a school in the educational system of Song Doc town.
Hon Chuoi Island has an area of about 7km2, is one of the important outpost islands in the Southwest of the Fatherland. The island has complex terrain, high slopes, harsh weather conditions, little rain, much sunshine.
Currently, Hon Chuoi Island has 39 households with 120 people. The island has 3 military forces: Navy, Border Guard and Lighthouse. The people of Hon Chuoi Island mainly live by cage fish farming, life is still difficult due to the lack of national grid electricity, schools, medical stations and frequent shortage of fresh water.
