Persistent dedication to grassroots sports

For a long time, Mr. Nguyen Van Ty (born in 1984) in Quarter 4, Ward 5, Dong Ha City has been known to many people in the sports community. With his love, knowledge and understanding of sports, he is always present at many tournaments to cheer for the athletes; regularly writes articles analyzing and commenting on tournaments, especially explaining controversial situations on social networking sites to provide useful information to the people. In particular, he is also a "versatile" athlete, playing well in many sports, participating in major tournaments in and outside the province with impressive results; directly sponsoring many sports tournaments in Quang Tri, contributing to creating practical playgrounds for the community.

Until now, the image of athlete Nguyen Van Ty with his brave and confident steps to conquer Cua Pass at the "Back to the Source" Cross-Country Race, the 8th Provincial Sports Festival - 2022 with the Silver Medal is still preserved in the hearts of Quang Tri sports lovers and individual participants. Because at that time, Mr. Ty was one of the 3 oldest athletes participating in the tournament that gathered more than 100 young athletes, including many professional athletes.

“Competing at Cua Pass is an unforgettable memory for me when competing with talented young athletes. However, I was still persistent, gave my all on the track and gradually overcame my opponents to reach the top. The Silver Medal I won was a great joy for me. From this achievement, I am confident to participate in more cross-country, marathon, and cycling races nationwide,” Mr. Ty happily said. Previously, at the 9th Dong Ha City Sports Festival - 2021-2022, Mr. Ty competed for Ward 5 in the Cross-country event, won 1 individual Second Prize, 1 team First Prize and was called to the city team.

Mr. Ty was first known as an enthusiastic fan who always attended many sports tournaments. Many people liked to talk to him because he had a deep understanding of the rules and regulations of the competition and enthusiastically answered questions about controversial situations in the competition of the athletes. Mr. Ty recounted that due to his poor childhood, he often went to his neighbor's house to watch TV, especially the best matches of the 1994 World Cup.

His childhood passion has helped him maintain his love for sports until today. To love sports, one needs to understand it from its history to how to play it. That thought has urged him to learn more about the rules of competitions in sports such as: 11-a-side, 7-a-side, 5-a-side football; tennis; cycling; running; badminton... and some traditional sports and folk games.

Consciously learning and improving practical knowledge and experience in handling situations in sports competitions, Mr. Ty often talks with people working in sports, referees, and coaches to update information, especially changes and additions to competition rules.

In 2020, from cycling to exercise, he boldly participated in a number of amateur cycling races in Dong Ha City. When he had experience, he competed in the Hoa Binh Provincial Cycling Race; Cua Lo Cycling Race, Nghe An Province; Sam Son City Cycling Race, Thanh Hoa Province... Many people from amateur athletes to professional athletes love him for his friendliness, cheerfulness, enthusiasm in cheering, and his efforts, seriousness, and perseverance in overcoming all difficulties in competition.

He shared: “In 2022, while breaking through to the finish line at the Sam Son City Cycling Race in Thanh Hoa Province, I fell off my bike and suffered a serious injury. During my treatment, I thought about quitting competitions. But it seemed that the passion in my blood and the encouragement from my friends urged me to maintain the rehabilitation exercises, persevering step by step to overcome the pain.”

In early 2023, Mr. Ty returned to cycling and running to regain his competitive spirit. He marked his return by winning 8th place in the 5km event at the 2024 Dong Ha City Marathon - Breakthrough Journey on the Land of Fire.

Silent contribution

What is admirable about Mr. Ty is that despite being busy with his business, he still spends a lot of time participating in sports activities, from the role of a cheerleader, athlete to sponsor.

“The province’s grassroots sports have many talented athletes and many passionate people, but they always lack resources to develop further. With the desire to contribute a small part to developing the movement and creating more playgrounds for those who share the same passion, I have sponsored a number of tournaments such as: Quang Tri Newspaper Football Tournament - Truong Son Cup; Dong Ha League Football Tournament; Men’s and Women’s Football Tournament of Provincial Agencies and Enterprises; S5 Champions Football Tournament for Yen Loan Cup... and many local sports activities,” said Mr. Ty.

As the Director of MTF LLC, Mr. Ty actively spreads the spirit of sports training, improves the health of his employees; builds the MTF LLC football team, creates a playground after work hours and participates in some grassroots football tournaments in Dong Ha City. For those who are new to running and cycling, he always cares and helps them, such as building suitable training plans, buying clothes, shoes, watches... to popularizing rules, regulations and competition experience. Many grassroots sports commentators commented that he is a person who is willing to share and support them with knowledge about the rules of marathons, running, 7-a-side and 5-a-side amateur football, futsal, tactics and positions of athletes on the field to make "inspiring" more attractive.

“Sports have been a great source of inspiration for me to regain energy after a stressful day at work. I am currently training hard to participate in running races in my favorite distances of 1,500m and 5,000m with the goal of reaching the top 3 in Dong Ha City; maintaining my pace in marathons and cycling races in many provinces and cities across the country.

I and many of my brothers are looking forward to the 2025 Tien Phong Newspaper National Marathon and Long Distance Championship to experience the competition atmosphere and the encouragement from my hometown Quang Tri. At the same time, I will continue to support sports tournaments and sports enthusiasts, contributing to spreading the spirit of training in the community, making the mass sports movement increasingly developed," Mr. Ty shared.
