Thanks to her good performance in international tournaments, tennis player Nguyen Thuy Linh entered the world's top 30 for the first time in her career in early 2023. This ranking helps her qualify for major international tournaments, with attractive prizes and high bonus points. Going out into the "big sea", the 26-year-old tennis player from Phu Tho continuously defeated her opponents to reach the historic milestone of entering the world's top 20 for the first time in October 2023. Thanks to that, Nguyen Thuy Linh won a ticket to the prestigious Olympic arena for the second time in a row.

Nguyen Thuy Linh continues her journey to conquer the world of badminton

Currently ranked 28th in the world, Nguyen Thuy Linh affirmed her strength by winning the women's singles championship for the third consecutive time at the recent 2024 Vietnam Open badminton tournament in Ho Chi Minh City. Immediately after the tournament, she went to Changzhou to compete in the China Open tournament in the BWF Tour Super 1,000 system. This is a tournament with a total prize money of up to 2 million USD (nearly 50 billion VND), 20 times higher than the prize money of the Vietnam Open badminton tournament and only high-ranking players are eligible to participate.

In the opening match, the number 1 Vietnamese tennis player won an impressive victory over Thet Htar Thuzar (Myanmar, ranked 54th in the world). By entering the second round, Nguyen Thuy Linh is sure to "pocket" 6,000 USD in prize money and 5,400 bonus points.

Before going to China to compete, Nguyen Thuy Linh shared that her goal is to strive to return to the world's top 20, and further, the world's top 15.

“My journey ahead is to travel to many places, participate in many big international tournaments with many obstacles and challenges. I want to explore my limits to see how far I can go in the world of badminton,” Nguyen Thuy Linh shared.

At the recent Vietnam Open, Nguyen Thuy Linh had the support of Indonesian expert Hariawan. At the ongoing China Open, she competed alone. Funding is limited while international tours are expensive and tournaments like the China Open, Nguyen Thuy Linh did not have support from the Department of Sports and Physical Training but went with local funds (Dong Nai unit), so she had to "cut her coat according to her cloth", accepting the situation of "going it alone". Sometimes she felt lonely and disadvantaged, but gradually she got used to it, Nguyen Thuy Linh encouraged herself, adjusted her own expertise and learned from each opponent. She also shared that, competing alone abroad, in a strange place, it was still very warm when hearing the fans shouting loudly from the stands: "Linh, keep it up".

After the China Open, Nguyen Thuy Linh continued to participate in the Denmark Open badminton tournament taking place from October 15 to 20. This is a BWF Tour Super 750 level tournament, one level lower than the tournament in China but also attracts many strong players to participate.

The golden girl of badminton in Vietnam said that patience and the spirit of not giving up are the keys to her success in many matches. Therefore, when she goes on the field, she only thinks about playing her best and doing her best. Before the 2024 Paris Olympics, the number 1 player in Vietnam had a series of unsuccessful international tournaments, "losing everywhere" but she still persevered to have an impressive Olympics and explode again.

In the round of 16 of the strongest players in the women's singles at the 2024 China Open badminton tournament yesterday, Nguyen Thuy Linh could not surprise the world's 9th ranked player Aya Ohori (Japan). Thuy Linh lost 0-2 (17/21, 11/21) to the 7th seed and stopped at the tournament.
