Today (January 23), Vietnam's No. 1 badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh (ranked 32nd in the world) had a hard-fought victory over Letshanaa Karupathevan (ranked 59th in the world) in the round of 16 of the women's singles of the Indonesia Masters 2025 international badminton tournament in the BWF Tour Super 500 system with a total prize money of 475,000 USD.
Ranked lower than Nguyen Thuy Linh, Letshanaa Karupathevan is considered to have the ability to create surprises as she is on the rise, combined with her youth and good physical strength. Right from the start of the match, the Malaysian player unleashed her strength with the desire to "fight fast and win fast" against Thuy Linh. However, the number 1 Vietnamese player showed her courage and battle experience to control the match well. Letshanaa Karupathevan had a moment of explosive performance, scoring 6 points in a row to equalize 18/18, but Nguyen Thuy Linh quickly adjusted the tempo and rose to win 21/18.
Letshanaa Karupathevan's determination and youthful energy were brought into play in the second set when she was able to neutralize many tricky shots from Nguyen Thuy Linh. Thanks to that, the Malaysian player won 21/17, equalizing the score 1-1 and bringing the match into the deciding third set.
The third game was full of excitement as Nguyen Thuy Linh and Letshanaa Karupathevan competed fiercely for points and had some thrilling "doubles". Thuy Linh had some tricky shots that made Letshanaa Karupathevan unable to save the shuttlecock despite her best efforts and fell on the court. The 22-year-old Malaysian badminton talent saved match points twice to tie the score at 20/20. The Dong Nai player's bravery showed up again at the crucial moment, helping her rise to win 22/20, thereby winning a ticket to the quarter-finals.
Disappointed with her performance after losing to Nguyen Thuy Linh, tennis player Letshanaa Karupathevan threw her racket on the court, leaving an unsightly image in the eyes of viewers. In the women's singles quarterfinals of the Indonesia Masters badminton tournament, Nguyen Thuy Linh faced Sung Shuo-yun (Taiwan, ranked 24th in the world). This is also the best achievement of the Vietnamese badminton beauty queen in 2025.
