A group of magazine collaborators were prosecuted and temporarily detained by Thai Nguyen Provincial Police to investigate the act of extortion.

This group of subjects all reside in Dai Tu District, Thai Nguyen Province, including: Hoang Van Huu (32 years old), residing in Phuc Linh Commune; Dao Van The (43 years old), residing in Luc Ba Commune; Vu Hoang Binh (36 years old) and Do Manh Dung (39 years old), both residing in Hung Son Town; Dao Dinh Luyen (46 years old), residing in Phuc Luong Commune.

Thai Nguyen Provincial Police said that recently, a number of people have been found in the area forging degrees and documents to apply for jobs as collaborators and reporters for magazines. These people then took advantage of the names of press agencies to extort property from businesses and business households.

This group of subjects researched and studied the activities of business households and enterprises to find loopholes, then contacted them to work, threatening to write articles if they did not pay. In some cases, the group wrote articles first and then agreed with the business household or enterprise owner to pay money to remove the articles, thereby appropriating the money.

Regarding the 5 defendants prosecuted, through documents and initial investigation, the Investigation Police Agency of Thai Nguyen Province Police determined that the subjects: Hoang Van Huu, Vu Hoang Binh, Do Manh Dung, Dao Dinh Luyen had forged their degrees to apply to be magazine collaborators. Dao Van The impersonated a magazine collaborator to appropriate money from dozens of victims with a total amount of 200 million VND.

Along with the decision to prosecute the case and temporarily detain 5 suspects for further investigation, the Investigation Police Agency of Thai Nguyen Provincial Police requested that organizations and individuals whose property was extorted by the above subjects contact the Criminal Police Department, address 27, Hoang Van Thu Street, Thai Nguyen City or call the phone number 02083855232 to report the incident, to ensure their rights according to the provisions of law.

The Investigation Police Agency of Thai Nguyen Provincial Police is urgently expanding the investigation of the case to clarify the subjects involved.
