The event took place on the morning of March 12 (Vietnam time) in the US, organized by the Vietnam Film Promotion and Development Association (VFDA) in coordination with the Boston Global Forum (BGF), as part of a series of activities celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations.

The aim is to strengthen the connection between the two countries' film industries, promote cooperation in film production, apply technology to cinema and develop high-quality human resources.

AI-Integrated Cinema Ecosystem

According to Ms. Ngo Phuong Lan, President of VFDA, AIWS Film Park is a strategic initiative. It is not only a film production center, but also plays the role of a film ecosystem integrating AI technology.

"Contribute to making Vietnam a creative cinema hub in the region and connect with leading film centers such as Boston, New York, Hollywood, Washington DC, San Francisco, Paris, Rome, Venice and London," said Ms. Lan.

She said there are many controversies but AI really plays an important role in film production by helping to save time, costs and resources.

However, “AI can only be an excellent assistant, supporting creativity but cannot replace humans in generating ideas, creating emotions and imagination - the core elements that make up the vitality of cinematic art”.

"Vietnam needs to stay ahead of the trend"

This project is part of the Friends of Vietnam - US Film Collaboration program , a film cooperation initiative between Vietnam and the US. The purpose is to support filmmakers and investors from both sides to connect resources and build a sustainable film ecosystem.

The association told Tuoi Tre Online that the AIWS film park initiative is oriented according to the standards of the AI World Society (AIWS), with the expectation of contributing to improving the quality of film production in Vietnam, while creating favorable conditions for international film crews to come to Vietnam to produce and release films.

In addition to focusing on infrastructure development, the project also focuses on cooperation with Harvard, MIT, UCLA and prestigious universities in the US to implement AI-based film training programs, thereby contributing to improving the quality of human resources.

At the event, international delegates also suggested that to realize this initiative, there needs to be close coordination between businesses, academia and international organizations. Ms. Ngo Phuong Lan said that “this roundtable is a premise for the next steps of cooperation”.

Director Tony Bui said previously that large-scale film production requires huge resources. With AI, even independent filmmakers can create high-quality cinematic works.

“Vietnam needs to take the lead in this trend and AIWS can become a hub to promote the smart film production model,” he said.
