According to a recent report from research firm Canalys, Mac market share grew strongly in the final quarter of last year, surpassing the top three PC brands.
Specifically, Apple now holds 45% of the market share in the field of artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled computers, while its closest competitor, Windows-based computers, only has 15%. Mac sales in the fourth quarter of 2024 also outpaced major brands such as Lenovo, HP and Dell, with a 10% growth in the entire market, putting Apple in fourth place.
Apple Wins Big in the Computer Market Thanks to the Wave of AI-Enabled Devices
Part of that success comes from the Apple Partner Network program, which makes it easy for businesses to sell Macs and provide customer support. It also demonstrates how well Macs integrate with the systems businesses already use.
Mac sales outpace major PC brands
In the AI-enabled PC market, Apple dominates with 54% market share, while Lenovo and HP each have 12%. This leadership is driven by the integration of dedicated AI chips into Macs, which provide personalized experiences and increased productivity for users.
By 2024, 17% of computers shipped will have AI built in, with Apple continuing to lead the market. While AI capabilities are not yet a deciding factor in consumer purchases, their importance is expected to increase over time.
The report also pointed out that Microsoft’s decision to end support for Windows 10 at the end of this year has spurred device innovation in the business sector, benefiting all manufacturers. However, the Trump administration’s tariff policies could negatively impact laptop imports from China to the US.
