These striking images quickly went viral on hundreds of websites and news platforms across Vietnam and abroad. Many viewers compared the photos to vivid abstract paintings. Interestingly, upon closer inspection, new details emerged, providing a vivid picture of how Vietnamese people celebrate Tet. Families came with mats, blankets, lanterns and tents, transforming the foot of the mountain into a colorful “sea of people”. The first month of the lunar calendar, according to Vietnamese beliefs, marks the beginning of a new year but also a new opportunity and is considered a time to open up the spiritual realm. People believe that offering incense at Ba Den Mountain during this time will bring blessings from Linh Son Thanh Mau Bodhisattva. On the top of the mountain, visitors eagerly pay their respects to the towering Tay Bo Da Son Buddha statue, and the world’s largest Maitreya Bodhisattva statue.
