The effectiveness of pioneers

Mr. Tran Van Cuong (residing in Hung Thoi 2 hamlet, Phu Hung commune) established Ngoc Thai Mulberry Company Limited after a period of successful crop conversion, moving towards developing 3 OCOP products. On the land of ineffective rice and glutinous rice, Mr. Cuong came up with the idea of ​​finding a new crop to replace it. Referring to models and with the support of agricultural officials, he "picked" mulberry trees, because this is a fruit rich in vitamins, suitable for all ages. He experimented with growing mulberry trees on 5,000m2 ( F1 mulberry trees). After 2 years, he harvested the first crop of about 4 tons. To increase income, he "turned" the mulberry garden into an ecological model, welcoming visitors to visit, take check-in photos in the garden, and serve refreshing drinks made from mulberry fruits, enjoying fresh fruit on the spot.

Mr. Cuong's direction continues to be supported by the district's professional sector and the Farmers' Association, providing capital, suggesting ways to expand the mulberry growing area to 11,000m2 , with about 900 mulberry trees. "I set up a project to produce VietGap mulberry and was supported by the provincial functional sector with seedlings and an automatic sprinkler irrigation system. The mulberry garden is growing very well, fresh mulberries are processed into many canned and bottled products. In particular, I process mulberry wine which is favored by many people and many localities, who order and open stores as retail distributors" - Mr. Cuong shared. Up to now, the mulberry harvest output is about 15 - 18 tons/year. In addition to selling fresh fruit, the products: mulberry wine, mulberry juice, artichoke syrup have met the "3-star" OCOP standard. Mr. Cuong is continuing to perfect the product to participate in product upgrading evaluation, approaching e-commerce sites.



Developing OCOP products in Cu Lao district

In Phu Binh commune, OCOP products with the Thanh Tung brand are a new direction to solve the output of Nang Hai fish (beaded snakehead fish). Once known as the "capital" of Nang Hai fish farming in the island district, fish farmers are facing difficulties because of the output being forced down in price, losses... The fish ingredients are successfully processed by Ms. Chau Thi Thuy Diem's ​​family into products from That Lat fish, such as: Fresh That Lat fish cakes, whole That Lat fish salted with lemongrass and chili, That Lat fish cakes seasoned with spices. Ms. Diem's ​​family registered the products for business and established Thanh Tung Seafood Processing Company Limited. The products are available at Tu Son Supermarket (Chau Doc City); distribution agents in My Binh Ward (Long Xuyen City), Co.opmart Supermarket... Each month, the company supplies the market with 3 - 4 tons of products; Pangasius sausage alone sells 500 - 600kg, bringing in an income of over 1 billion VND/year.

Motivation to increase agricultural product value

By the end of 2024, Phu Tan district will have 2 new products recognized as achieving "3-star" OCOP, which are Phu Ho green-skin grapefruit of Phu Ho business household and Binh Thanh Dong high-tech melon of Binh Thanh Dong high-tech melon cooperative. Currently, the whole district has 11 products meeting OCOP standards with "3 stars". With certified products, the district promotes trade promotion activities, supports market access, and expands product output. Specifically, organizes for the owners of OCOP products, potential products, strengths, craft villages... to regularly participate in festivals and fairs inside and outside the province. Regularly participating to promote products to the market are the "cana" product of Nguyen Trung business household; the potential salt product of a business household in Phu Long commune, products processed from noni fruit of Tran Gia facility in Phu My town; Thanh Tung sliced ​​catfish products participate in the 2024 An Giang OCOP fair on TikTok platform...

This year, Phu Tan district strives to have 5 more products certified as OCOP (3 stars or more); re-evaluate 2 products: sliced ​​​​fish sausage, durian fruit ice cream. Implement digital transformation in the implementation to improve the implementation capacity of officers in charge of the OCOP program; especially the management and operational capacity of subjects participating in the OCOP program. Create favorable conditions for localities and economic subjects to be proactive in maintaining, upgrading the star rating and re-recognizing after 36 months of OCOP products for products that have expired. Phu Tan district also encourages and supports subjects to register to establish and protect industrial property rights, apply advanced science to production and business activities according to the policies being implemented in the province...
