These are the opinions of experts, speakers, and businesses at the Workshop “Corporate Governance in the AI Era: Improving Performance with AI and Smart Data” held on March 11 in Hanoi.

At the workshop, Dr. Can Van Luc, Member of the National Financial and Monetary Policy Advisory Council, Chief Economist of BIDV analyzed the world and Vietnam economic situation in the period of 2024-2025. The global economy is growing slowly, at about 2.7%, inflation is down to 2.9% in 2025, while global trade is forecast to decrease slightly to 3.2%.

For Vietnam, our economy is a bright spot with positive export growth, flourishing foreign direct investment (FDI) capital... However, businesses still face many challenges and expect support policies from the State, especially a Party Resolution to promote the private economy.

Dr. Can Van Luc also emphasized that competition in technology, especially in AI, is very fierce among countries. If Vietnam is slow, businesses will be eliminated if they are slow to adapt.

"Investing in AI is a long-term investment, the results may not be seen immediately, but it is necessary to see that applying AI (or Gen AI...) is a strategic problem, not simply a technical or technological problem. AI is not just a trend but has become a decisive factor in productivity, quality, and business efficiency," said Dr. Can Van Luc.

McKinsey’s 2024 report found that 65% of global workers have used generative AI in their jobs, but only 15% of businesses have seen tangible benefits from the technology. The most common AI application areas include marketing (54%), technology (39%), and finance (16%).

To successfully apply AI, according to Dr. Can Van Luc, businesses need to prepare an AI strategy that is consistent with their business goals; prepare a data platform; choose appropriate AI tools and technologies; ensure ethical and responsible use of AI; continuously monitor and improve the AI system; develop a competent workforce to maximize the potential of this technology...

Sharing about the strategy of applying AI and smart data in business management, Mr. Le Hong Quang, General Director of MISA, cited data showing that the rate of businesses applying AI in management increased from 33% in 2022 to 72% in 2024 (according to IBM, Forbes, McKinsey).

This technology is helping in customer service (56%), cybersecurity (51%), customer relationship management (42%), and content production (40%). Businesses that use data to make decisions are 23 times more likely to increase customer acquisition than traditional businesses.

Applying AI helps increase customer care productivity by 1.71 times, reduce staff from 600 to 350 people, optimize financial processes, automate accounting and support businesses to access capital faster.

Mr. Le Hong Quang emphasized that AI is an inevitable trend, requiring businesses to quickly adapt to maintain a competitive advantage. Businesses need to popularize AI in management to improve performance, build a culture of data-based decision-making and promote digital transformation with an AI-integrated cloud computing platform. At the same time, it is necessary to continuously review and have a plan to apply AI to each process to help optimize operational and management efficiency.

In the panel discussion "AI & Smart Data - The key to modern business management", the speakers discussed and analyzed the role of AI in business management, the division of tasks between humans and AI, and practical experiences in applying this technology to improve efficiency in management and operations.

The speakers all agreed that AI has become a core tool in modern business management. To effectively apply AI, businesses need to change not only in technology but also in management thinking and long-term development strategy. If we do not act decisively now, we will not only fall behind but also risk being eliminated from this competitive game.
