The biotech durian growing model of Mr. Le Van Hung in Ba Cum Nam commune, Khanh Son district (Khanh Hoa province) has brought unexpected results compared to the traditional method. After deducting expenses, this durian crop earned him over 600 million VND in profit.
Through the introduction of the Farmers' Association of Khanh Son district, we followed the forest road to visit the biotechnology durian growing model of Mr. Le Van Hung's family in Ba Cum Nam commune, Khanh Son district, which is considered a very effective model in the locality.

Mr. Hung said that his family used to grow oranges, grapefruits, and tangerines, but the results were not very good, so they switched to growing durian. Because they did not know much about the technique at first, they used fertilizers and pesticides in the traditional way, so the durian had some gummosis diseases, the roots were slow to develop, so it cost a lot of money and care.
Through research on mass media, Mr. Hung learned about methods of care, pest treatment, flowering and fruit preservation using biotechnology. To achieve success with this model, Mr. Hung had to go through many failures, because just one mistake could ruin his tons of durian orchard.

Currently, he applies biotechnology in the garden, he only clears all the plants and weeds without spraying pesticides, and uses nem with essential oils for initial prevention of pests. With a 1.5ha durian garden, 6 years old, last year, due to traditional methods, the harvest was only 7 tons, earning nearly 400 million VND.
This year, he applied biotechnology to help his durian garden increase significantly, with a yield of 11 tons, with a selling price of 50,000 - 68,000 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, the profit was over 600 million VND. With biotechnology, the gummosis disease was limited, and the trees grew very well and healthily.

Mr. Hung said that in the past, the durian garden was constantly suffering from gummosis, and each time it had to be treated in many stages, which cost a lot of money and time, and the tree took a long time to recover. Thanks to biotechnology, the family now has peace of mind.

Mr. Hung said that the model of applying biotechnology contributes to protecting the environment for his family and those around him, and protecting the health of consumers. Currently, he has also shared the technique with other households in the area.
Mr. Mau Uy - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Ba Cum Nam Commune said that Mr. Hung's durian growing model is very effective in contributing to environmental protection for the people. This is one of the pioneering households in the model. In the commune, there are about 65 hectares of durian growing area. Thanks to durian trees, many ethnic minority households in the mountainous areas have changed their lives and the locality is mobilizing and guiding farmers to learn how to apply biotechnology to durian trees.
