Vietnam and the Kyrgyz Republic established diplomatic relations in 1992, immediately after the Kyrgyz Republic declared independence (in 1991). Since then, the two countries have maintained a good traditional friendship. The two countries have exchanged delegations and held bilateral meetings; closely coordinated and supported each other at international organizations and multilateral forums.

However, economic and trade cooperation between the two countries is currently at an average level, recently bilateral trade turnover has been increasing sharply, reaching 7.5 million USD in 2023 and 13.5 million USD in 2024. As of October 31, 2024, Kyrgyzstan has 1 investment project in Vietnam with a total registered capital of 5 million USD. Therefore, there is still a lot of room for cooperation between the two sides.
