Hoa Binh province strives to produce at least 300 tons of qualified citrus fruits for export, maintain 100% of growing area codes, and issue 10 new codes. Strive to have packaging facilities that are qualified to issue codes to the EU market...

The 2024-2025 crop year ended with many memorable marks for the cultivation industry of Hoa Binh province, especially for citrus fruits such as oranges and grapefruits. Although there are still many challenges, with the efforts of the agricultural sector, localities, enterprises, production units and farmers, in general, the picture of production and export still appears with bright and promising colors.

After a year of weather fluctuations, thanks to the application of advanced science and technology, fruit orchards still produce bountiful, quality fruit. Production models following VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards are increasingly expanding, helping to increase the value of citrus fruits on the market.

In Luong Son district, from 2023 to present, with the participation of the entire political system, enterprises, cooperatives, cooperative groups, and the efforts and active application of science and technology in production by grapefruit farmers, the quality of the fruit has changed a lot in terms of sweetness, yield, and appearance.

Vice Chairman of Luong Son District People's Committee Bui Quoc Hoan said that Luong Son district has 3 grapefruit growing areas in the production and consumption chain that have been granted codes for domestic and export growing areas; granted codes for packaging facilities and certified with VietGAP and GlobalGAP.

In 2024, Luong Son district has reviewed the areas that are eligible to continue building and developing the production and consumption chain of Luong Son grapefruit products. At the same time, using the effect from export activities to boost grapefruit consumption in domestic markets.

As of February 2025, the entire Hoa Binh province has conducted inspections, assessments and received approval from importing countries for 48 citrus growing area codes for export with an area of 332.48 hectares in Luong Son, Yen Thuy, Tan Lac, Kim Boi districts and Hoa Binh City. The markets that have been granted codes include: the United States, the EU, New Zealand and South Korea.

To achieve this result, since the beginning of 2024, the Hoa Binh Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection has developed and issued technical guidance documents for grapefruit cultivation according to export standards. Production techniques and pest control techniques applied to each growth stage will be disseminated to businesses, cooperatives, cooperatives and gardeners in grapefruit production areas for export in the area for synchronous implementation. Training and dissemination activities on regulations on granting and managing growing area codes and packaging facility codes, plant quarantine and regulations of importing countries have been promoted.

In addition, the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection has also proactively established groups on the Zalo application to connect cooperatives, cooperative groups, gardeners and businesses to purchase products. In the linked groups, there are technical staff assigned to the area to closely monitor and provide timely guidance to gardeners. Strengthen coordination with the Department of Agriculture and Environment of districts and cities to effectively carry out the work of granting, managing and supervising codes for growing areas and citrus packaging facilities for export.

With the synchronous implementation of many solutions, in the 2024-2025 crop year, the total output of citrus fruits harvested in the province is estimated at 202,040 tons; of which orange output is 93,961 tons, grapefruit output is 108,079 tons. Compared to the 2023-2024 crop year, orange output is 91.54%, grapefruit output is 118.28%. The linkage in production and consumption of citrus products during the crop year has shifted from the form of consumption without labels or origins to the form of consumption with brands and trademarks of establishments and cooperatives.

Specifically, consumption through contracts between companies, cooperatives, farms with businesses and supermarkets accounts for about 22% of output; consumption through the system of traders cooperating with gardeners accounts for 50%; through direct retail channels from gardeners about 25%...

The main consumption markets are still concentrated in Hanoi, Hai Phong and neighboring provinces and major cities. In the export sector, the whole province has exported 78 tons of citrus fruits of all kinds to the US, EU, UK, and Malaysia (equal to 125% compared to the 2023-2024 crop year).

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Hong Yen - Head of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Hoa Binh province informed that in the 2024-2025 crop year, the quality and design of citrus fruits have been significantly improved and changed. Thanks to that, in addition to the export target, the consumption and selling price in the domestic market have also improved many times higher than similar products on the market.

Typically, Dien grapefruit products in Dai Dong production area (Yen Thuy), some growing areas participating in the production and consumption chain of grapefruit products in Luong Son district and Tan Lac red grapefruit, have an average selling price of 9,000 - 14,000 VND/fruit.

By February 2025, the province’s orange and grapefruit output will have been basically consumed. Currently, some areas of Xa Doai oranges will continue to be harvested after Tet and the V2 orange area will be harvested in March and April.

However, in addition to the achieved results, there are still difficulties and limitations in cultivation, consumption markets and meeting the conditions for exporting citrus fruits. Therefore, the Department of Agriculture of Hoa Binh province has proposed solutions to complete the target in 2025 such as: Striving for the output of citrus fruits that meet standards and are exported to reach at least 300 tons. Maintaining 100% of growing area codes; issuing 10 new codes. Striving to have packaging facilities that are qualified to issue codes to the EU market...
