Output and quality of OCOP products increase
Melon products of Kim Long High-Tech Agricultural Cooperative (An Binh Commune, Phu Giao District) achieved 3-star OCOP certification in 2020. Mr. Nguyen Hong Quyet, Director of the Cooperative, said that up to now, the unit has 90 members, with an area of 22 hectares of land growing melons in greenhouses. Every year, the Cooperative supplies the market with more than 2,000 tons of OCOP products, with revenue of tens of billions of VND. "Thanks to the application of high-tech production processes by growing melons in greenhouses, the Cooperative has helped reduce production costs by 20% and reduce the amount of pesticides by 70%. Thanks to meeting 3-star OCOP and GlobalGAP standards, the Kim Long melon brand is increasingly trusted and favored by customers. Currently, the cooperative's products are distributed through multiple channels, such as: Wholesale markets, agents in many provinces and cities, supermarket systems, online sales channels on digital platforms, e-commerce platforms...," Mr. Nguyen Hong Quyet added.
Mr. Le Minh Sang, Director of Tan My Fruit Cooperative (Tan My Commune, Bac Tan Uyen District), said that in 2024, the Cooperative exported 100 tons of grapefruit to the Netherlands, opening up new opportunities for grapefruit in particular and Binh Duong's citrus fruit trees in general to export to Europe. The Cooperative started operating in early 2015, mainly growing citrus fruit trees and melons. Currently, the Cooperative has more than 20 members, with more than 62 hectares of land growing green-skin grapefruit, orange-leaf grapefruit, and melons grown in greenhouses... The Cooperative's products are certified with VietGAP and 4-star OCOP. OCOP products are grown on an organic basis without using fertilizers or chemicals but still achieve high productivity and quality, ensuring the health and safety of consumers. "With this direction, the Cooperative's product output is stable; in line with the current agricultural development trend, it helps reduce product costs, improve competitiveness and improve the soil better. Thereby helping the cooperative's annual revenue increase," Mr. Le Minh Sang shared.
Bac Tan Uyen District is one of the localities with the largest number of OCOP products in the province. Sharing about the process of developing OCOP products in the locality, Mr. Nguyen Van Thuan, Vice Chairman of Bac Tan Uyen District People's Committee, said that through many specific and practical solutions, the district's OCOP Program has achieved many good results. Up to now, the district has 46 OCOP products, of which 3 products have achieved 4 stars, 43 products have achieved 3 stars. All OCOP products have been registered for accounts, creating warehouses on the e-commerce platforms Voso (Viettel), Postmart, Binhduongtrade to sell products...
Promote the application of science and technology
The representative of the Department of Rural Development said that each OCOP product carries the cultural values characteristic of each locality and each region. This is the strength of OCOP products compared to mass products. To be recognized as OCOP, the product must meet the prescribed standards, so when affirming its position in the market, the consumption of OCOP products will be stable and develop in the context of people's lives improving day by day as today.
Survey results from the authorities show that the demand for OCOP products in the international market is currently quite large, especially for the Vietnamese community in other countries, especially in Europe, America... However, to expand the export market for OCOP products, economic experts say that enterprises and production units need to continue to improve product quality, meet requirements on technical barriers...
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, through propaganda, organizing training courses, and supplementing knowledge for OCOP subjects on skills, capacity of enterprise management, cooperatives, quality management, food safety, intellectual property, and green economic development, it has contributed to promoting the rapid development of OCOP products with increasing quality. The whole province currently has 219 3- and 4-star OCOP products, contributing to spreading production models that bring practical economic efficiency and increase people's income. In restructuring the agricultural sector towards increasing added value and sustainable development, Binh Duong pays great attention to the OCOP Program. The provincial agricultural sector is actively coordinating with relevant levels, sectors, enterprises, and cooperatives to promote investment in science and technology, digital transformation, and green development in agricultural production in general and OCOP products in particular to improve product quality; expand export markets; continue to diversify product consumption channels, etc.
