Although sharing a common historical origin, language, and some cultural characteristics with other ethnic groups, the Giáy people have preserved their own unique features, especially in folk songs with many different melodies. The content of their songs often reflects the life and emotions of the people through themes such as: praising nature, celebrating love between couples, and songs about the rich, the poor, the lowly, and the high-ranking...

The songs and melodies are sung at all times and in all places—at funerals, weddings, celebrations, festivals, and especially when Giáy men and women meet. Giáy folk songs have three very common forms: Vươn há lản (singing beside the wine table), Vươn chăng hằm (singing to express love), and Vươn sroỏng rán (singing to bid farewell), but the most distinctive are the sweet and romantic "Vươn" melodies sung by Giáy boys and girls on spring nights.
