The opening ceremony of the summer activities for children in Ward 22 (Ward 17, Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City) was successful but a bit regretful because of the rain. Many children who registered for performances did not have time to go on stage and had to sadly leave.
1. Although it is called a stage, the space is taken advantage of from the front yard of the apartment building, a banner, a few bunches of balloons are simply decorated. However, the appearance of the clown from the Southern Arts Theater made hundreds of children and their parents excited. The clown was a bit "nervous" when surrounded and his magic tricks sometimes could not fool the children. However, many children with innocent eyes still attentively followed the performances of transforming into flowers, doves...
Many children had the opportunity to touch the golden python for the first time, placing it on their shoulders without fear, while others cried out just by seeing it and ran away. Not only did they get to watch the magic show, the children also eagerly lined up to exchange for small gifts including milk, snacks, balloons, etc.
After the policy of merging residential groups, this is the launching activity of the Neighborhood Learning Promotion Association in conjunction with the Youth Union. In addition to the support from the Ward People's Committee, the operating budget also received donations from residents with the wish that their children would have more meaningful playgrounds in the summer. The program is expected to last for more than 2 summer months with diverse activities: practicing 16 martial arts moves of Uncle Ho; exchanging trash and batteries for plants; playing with prizes; awarding scholarships; competing in folk games; drawing, chess, and Chinese chess; knowledge competitions; sports...
Seeing children eagerly participating in activities, we can see that children always need a lot of space to have fun, learn, play and compete. And, if those activities only take place in a short period of time, a few hours each weekend, it is certainly not enough.
2. Every summer, while parents always have headaches and even conflicts because they do not know what to let their children play or where to send them, on the contrary, most children are eager to relax after a hard year of studying. The most noticeable scene in residential areas during the summer is that every afternoon, children often gather in large numbers in open areas.
Any space from the apartment lobby, a small park, or even a narrow sidewalk can be a place for fun and laughter. Older children can play alone, while younger children are accompanied by grandparents, parents, or housekeepers. However, the most crowded are the large parks in Ho Chi Minh City such as Gia Dinh, Le Van Tam, Go Vap, Hoang Van Thu, etc. Every afternoon, just look at the parking lot and you will see long rows of neatly arranged cars.
Ms. Ngoc An (living in Mieu Noi apartment building, Binh Thanh district) has a habit of taking her children to Le Van Tam Park (District 1) to play on weekends. “In addition to the wide, airy space, the park also has a sand pit area for children to play freely. This is also a rare opportunity for children to get dirty, and even when they leave, they are still covered in dirt and sand. Watching my children play, I feel like I am reminiscing about my childhood.”
Ms. Hong Phuc (living on Street 8, Go Vap District) also often chooses to take her child to Go Vap Park on weekends, especially because this place has a wide, cool riverside area and is shaded by green trees. She also bought her child a set of sand toys so that he can freely create. However, according to her, she always has to change the space and form of play so that the child does not get bored. Sometimes she takes her child to watch a suitable cartoon, go to a bookstore, go to entertainment spots... When she has more time, the whole family goes to the beach for a short time to change the air.
In fact, children's need for entertainment during the summer is always very high. Many families are under pressure because they do not know what to let their children play and with whom. Famous entertainment spots in Ho Chi Minh City such as the Zoo, Dam Sen, Suoi Tien..., or public parks are always in a state of having to queue and jostle. Children often get bored quickly, so activities must be very diverse and constantly changing.
And most importantly, recreational activities must ensure safety and health, while helping children strengthen their connections with friends and family, develop their personality and necessary skills. Not every family can afford to send their children on vacation or participate in expensive recreational activities. Therefore, creating summer fun spaces for children, including folk games in the surrounding areas, is extremely necessary.
