Tet is coming very soon, on the Chi Thanh - Van Phong highway project, engineers and workers are still working hard, temporarily putting behind them the waiting of their loved ones back home.
Construction site bustling with machine noise
In the last days of the year of the Dragon, at the construction site of the Chi Thanh - Van Phong expressway (through Phu Yen province), according to the reporter of Giao thong Newspaper, workers are still busy with construction.
Tu Lap Contractor mobilized equipment to "deploy" construction at Km 47+800.
The progress of the roadbed construction (after the loading period) has been accelerated. The material source has been improved so the contractors are urgently exploiting it, making up for the months of "thirst" for earth filling materials.
At Km 47+600 (end of Chi Thanh - Van Phong expressway), after many months of waiting for foundation loading, along with nearly 2 months of having to stop construction due to rain, Tu Lap Construction Company Limited mobilized the maximum construction force to undertake the entire route.
Along with the roadbed construction, material exploitation and soil transportation were also carried out in parallel. In the spring fields in Hoa Xuan Tay commune (Dong Hoa town), the sounds of excavators, rollers, and trucks resounded in unison.
Leading the reporter on the smooth, compacted roadbed, engineer Nguyen Dinh Trung, Deputy Construction Manager of the Tu Lap contractor, shared: "The days leading up to Tet, the unit still maintains normal construction. This year's prolonged rain has made construction difficult and had to be temporarily stopped. Now, taking advantage of the favorable weather, even though Tet has come, the contractor has mobilized workers to stay to continue construction. Everyone is happy to stay, considering this a common task and responsibility of the unit. Everyone sees that we have to sacrifice personal happiness to make up for the days of unfavorable weather."
After loading the roadbed, the Central Construction Group mobilized equipment to fill the roadbed at Km 38+600.
Moving along the service road to the beginning of the route, we saw the shape of the expressway stretching across all terrains of the western part of Dong Hoa town. A few months ago, the roadbed was just new land in the fields, but now the expressway bed has been raised and carefully compacted.
At noon at the Hoa Tam Nut intersection (intersection with National Highway 1 at Km 43+536), machinery was still bustling with activity. On the two southern access roads of the intersection, road rollers were tirelessly deployed, and under the overpass, a line of trucks was still hurriedly carrying materials to build the roadbed.
At access road number 2, a construction site supervision consultant team is drilling to take samples to test the compaction of the roadbed.
Speaking to reporters, a representative of Coninco Consulting Supervision Joint Stock Company said: "For us, as long as the contractor is still constructing, we will still work on the route.
Everyone wants to go home during Tet, but because of our responsibility, we volunteered to stay on duty. To help ensure the quality of construction as well as the progress of the project."
Continuing along the route, activities at the mining sites of Cay Tra mine (Dong Hoa town, Phu Yen) are quite bustling, with convoys of trucks coming in and out to "eat" materials.
After a period of waiting for construction to be slowed down to complete the procedures for granting mine permits, contractors have now been relieved of their "thirst" for foundation materials, so even though it is near Tet, they still mobilize many trucks and excavators to operate at maximum capacity.
Construction of Chi Thanh - Van Phong highway, section through Dong Hoa town, Phu Yen province.
At Km 38+700, the area where the highway passes through low-lying fields, the work of loading the weak soil has been completed. Currently, the construction unit is rushing to construct the roadbed.
The sound of excavators, bulldozers, and trucks taking turns dumping materials onto the roadbed created a bustling construction atmosphere, raising the morale of the construction during Tet.
Mr. Ngo Tien Ha, Deputy Director of Project Operations, Central Construction Group, excitedly said that since the end of the year, the Group's staff and workers have determined the mindset of staying at the construction site throughout Tet.
"Eat and stay on site at the construction site. All engineers, machine operators, and drivers are ready to work on-site, celebrate Spring on-site, and work through Tet to make up for the past months of the rainy season," said Mr. Ha.
Regain lost progress
Up to now, Phu Yen province has completed the handover of the site and relocation of technical infrastructure.
At the construction site, taking advantage of the dry weather, contractors mobilized 44 construction teams, with more than 750 pieces of equipment and 1,750 workers. The construction force met the approved detailed construction schedule.
When the weather returned to sunny conditions, the units repaired public roads, treated the wet road surface due to long-term rain, dug up the cover layer, exploited and filled up to 25,000m3/day.
According to the report of Project Management Board 7 (project investor), currently, contractors have also processed more than 15km of weak ground, reaching nearly 90%; construction has filled K95 soil, reaching 71%; crushed stone mixed with cement reinforcement, reaching 31%. There are many locations on the route that have been paved with asphalt.
Tu Lap Contractor works on the days before Tet at the Chi Thanh - Van Phong expressway construction site.
The contractor has also completed 100% of the construction of all 32 bridges (of which the bridge deck has completed more than 94% of the spans). Despite the very complex geological background, up to now, the Tuy An tunnel project has drilled and excavated 1,020m (100%), and the construction unit has poured nearly 36% of the tunnel lining concrete.
According to Project Management Board 7, the cumulative output to date has reached 5,527 billion VND, reaching nearly 69% of the contract value, nearly 1% faster than the project's progress.
Disbursement from the beginning of 2024 to date has reached nearly 96%. The cumulative disbursed capital to date is more than 7,000 billion VND (nearly 98%), basically meeting the requirements.
Construction teams are deployed simultaneously on the Chi Thanh - Van Phong highway.
The investor has also organized many meetings and thoroughly informed contractors and consultants to make more efforts and be more determined in construction work to compensate for the delayed progress, speed up the progress of items to ensure the project completion schedule in the fourth quarter of 2025.
In parallel with the construction work on site, Project Management Board 7 has directed the construction contractor and supervision consultant to arrange sufficient human resources to perform internal work well to speed up the acceptance and payment work.
Currently, the acceptance and payment process from the time the contractor submits until the money is in the contractor's account does not exceed 3 days.
The difficulty in material sources was resolved, the contractor took advantage of the dry weather to speed up construction.
"During the implementation process, the investor closely follows the site of each contractor and each construction team to direct relevant units to quickly handle any problems or difficulties at the site; resolutely handle and immediately replace weak units and construction teams that cause delays compared to the plan to ensure the project's progress and quality requirements.
Aware of their responsibility, contractors have proactively organized construction throughout the 2025 Lunar New Year. Many units have mobilized maximum equipment, motorbikes, and overtime, increasing construction crews at the site to speed up the excavation of the overlay layer, blasting rocks and exploiting soil to fill the roadbed, ensuring that the final section completes the work of embankment to treat weak soil in March 2025," said Mr. Ho Xuan Thang, Director of the Chi Thanh - Van Phong Component Project.
The Chi Thanh - Van Phong component project, passing through Phu Yen province, has a total length of more than 48km (through districts, cities, and towns: Tuy An, Tuy Hoa city, Phu Hoa district, Tay Hoa district, Dong Hoa town).
The starting point is at Chi Thanh intersection (in Chi Thanh town, Tuy An district), connecting with Quy Nhon - Chi Thanh highway. The ending point is at the intersection with National Highway 1 (in Hoa Xuan Nam commune, Dong Hoa town), connecting with the northern access road of Deo Ca tunnel and Van Phong - Nha Trang highway.
The project has a total investment of nearly 11,000 billion VND, starting in early 2023 and completing in the fourth quarter of 2025.
