Vietnam is one of the fastest growing economies in the ASEAN region, with increasing energy demand. This growth puts great pressure on the national energy system. Reliance on imported energy creates energy security risks, especially in the context of the current volatile global energy market.
Faced with this situation, for many years, the Vietnamese Government has made continuous efforts to ensure energy security through increasing energy efficiency. Many specific policies and activities to promote the use of energy economically and efficiently throughout society have been implemented. On March 13, 2019, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 280/QD-TTg approving the National Program on Energy Efficiency and Conservation for the 2019-2030 period (VNEEP3 Program) to synchronously deploy activities in the field of energy efficiency and conservation nationwide, in which communication activities to raise awareness of the community, businesses and the whole society about the responsibilities and benefits of energy efficiency and conservation solutions play an important role.
The Press Award for Propaganda on Energy Saving and Efficiency is one of the communication activities within the framework of the VNEEP Program. The Award aims to raise awareness and responsibility of the community in using energy saving and efficiency, and at the same time honor outstanding authors and press works on energy saving and efficiency at the central and local levels. This is the 14th year the Award has been held nationwide.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long said: “The year 2025 marks an important stage in Vietnam's sustainable development process, with the message "Green transition - Green future". This is not only a strategic orientation but also our strong commitment to using energy efficiently, reducing emissions and promoting a green economy. To realize this goal, the press and media play a pioneering role in spreading messages, orienting awareness and promoting action throughout society”.
The press not only reflects information but also contributes to creating trends and promoting important changes in society. Journalists and reporters not only report news but also inspire, discover and spread pioneering initiatives and typical models of energy saving. Through their works, journalists contribute to forming a sense of community responsibility, helping to shape a society towards sustainable development, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long emphasized. At the same time, he believes that, with the close coordination of the Vietnam Journalists Association and the strong response from press agencies, this year's award will be successful, contributing to promoting energy saving and sustainable development of the country. Journalists, reporters and informants are not only information transmitters but also agents of change, contributing to creating a green future for future generations.
Also at the launching ceremony, Journalist Nguyen Duc Loi - Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association shared: “In recent times, the Vietnam Journalists Association has coordinated with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to annually organize the Press Award for Propaganda on the use of energy saving and efficiency and has received the attention and response of many reporters and journalists across the country. In 2025, we expect to receive many creative, innovative works and even practical energy saving solutions.”
Attending and speaking at the launching ceremony, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Electricity Group EVN - Mr. Vo Quang Lam affirmed: "EVN is always aware of its responsibility in ensuring safe and stable electricity supply, while promoting energy saving solutions. We always accompany customers in implementing the State's policies on efficient and economical use of electricity". EVN leaders said that the Group continues to strongly launch electricity saving propaganda programs nationwide through online channels such as websites, mobile applications and social networks. Key campaigns include: "Family saves electricity", "Save electricity in schools", "Save electricity in offices" and "Model street saves electricity". In particular, the "Green Family" program will be widely organized with close coordination between Electricity Corporations/Electricity Companies and local authorities. The program will focus on raising awareness and encouraging households to apply energy-saving solutions in their daily lives. Participating households will receive technical advice, be updated on the latest energy-saving solutions and participate in competitions with many practical rewards, contributing to building a green, clean and sustainable community.
According to the Organizing Committee, the works participating in the journalism category include: news, reflection articles, interviews, discussions, comments, essays, reports, investigative reports, and journalistic essays in the categories of Print, Radio, Television, and Electronic Newspapers. The participating press works must be published from October 31, 2024 to September 1, 2025 on mass media licensed by competent state agencies.
Notably, this year the Organizing Committee will have an additional Video clip category. The work is 1-3 minutes long, has appropriate content, is used for propaganda at the unit or disseminated on any current media platform (including tiktok, zalo, fanpage, youtube, website...).
