Before the 2024 military service handover and reception took place on the morning of February 27, reporters of the Kinh te va Do thi newspaper recorded many cases of young people in Ho Chi Minh City volunteering to perform military service (NVQS) and public security service (NVCA).

Every year during the military recruitment period, in District 10, there are many young volunteers who join the army, many of whom are young party members. In the case of Mr. Le Pham Tuan Phong (born in 2002), he was trained, nurtured and matured in the militia and self-defense force (DQTV) of Ward 1. During his time working, he always completed his tasks excellently and was honored to join the ranks of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Tuan Phong shared: “I am proud to be a young party member, my responsibility is to make every effort, to devote my youth to contribute to building the city more and more beautiful, worthy of the tradition that previous generations have cultivated and built. With that in mind, I volunteered to join the army in the 2024 recruitment period”. Along with volunteering to join the army, Mr. Phong also hopes to serve in the army for a long time, or if he is discharged from the army, he also hopes to be given the opportunity to continue working locally to contribute to the development of the locality.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Nga (Phong's mother) said: "The army is an organized and disciplined environment. The military environment is very suitable for training young people and will help my son grow up. Therefore, when my son applied to volunteer, my family immediately agreed."

Another case is party member Duong Anh Kiet, residing in Binh Tri Dong ward (Binh Tan district). After his time in the militia ended in 2023, Kiet continued to volunteer to join the military service. Mr. Duong Anh Kiet shared: “Joining the military service is a source of pride for the city's youth in general and Binh Tri Dong ward in particular. Especially, when you are a young party member, you must be more aware and responsible, and must be a pioneer in everything so as not to disappoint the trust of the party committee, the government and the local people who have entrusted you with this task.”

Speaking to reporters of Kinh te va Do thi newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh - Chairman of Ward 1 People's Committee, District 6 said that in the 2024 military recruitment season in the locality, 13 young people passed the recruitment, of which 4 volunteered (3 young people volunteered to go to NVQS and 1 young person volunteered to go to NVCA).

Young man Tran Hoai Phuc (born in 2003, living at 105 Gia Phu, Ward 1, District 6) said that after graduating from the Information Technology major at FPT College, Phuc asked his parents to let him do military service. When his parents encouraged him to try volunteering (because Phuc weighed just over 50kg), Phuc applied and was accepted into the NVCA. According to Tran Hoai Phuc, being in the army or police to participate in protecting the country is an honor and pride for himself, his family and his clan.

Ms. Ta Thi Thanh Tuyen (born in 1980, Phuc's mother) shared that at first the family was confused, because as parents, everyone loves their children, while this was the first time her son was away from home. "With the encouragement and guidance of the brothers at the Military Command of Ward 1 (District 6), my family is now much more secure," Ms. Tuyen said.

To Ngoc Gia Bao (born in 2005, living at 28/35 Mai Xuan Thuong, Ward 1, District 6) also volunteered to join the army. Gia Bao said: “I was studying at a vocational college when the local authorities sent me a health check notice and the results were satisfactory. With the encouragement of my relatives, I volunteered to join the army.”

Ms. Le Thi Nhu Ha (Bao's adoptive mother) said that everyone in the family encouraged Bao to join the military service. When Bao was recruited, her family was very happy but also worried because they did not know if Bao was suitable for the military environment or not, and if he could complete the tasks assigned by the unit. "I just hope that when Bao joins the army, he will try to train physically, create habits about living hours and try to study well so that when he completes the military service and returns home, he will have a different direction and a different future in life," Ms. Ha hoped.

Another case is young man Nguyen Thai Duong (born 2002, residing at 133/40M Van Than, Ward 8, District 6) who was recruited for military service in 2024.

Talking to reporters, Mr. Duong confided: “Through research, I learned that the military environment is a great school for young people with the characteristics of unity and strict discipline, which is a good condition for each young person to strive to study, practice and mature; ready to face and overcome challenges in life. I graduated from the mechanical engineering department of the Vocational College, when I joined the army, I dreamed of becoming a tank soldier. However, I have never been away from home before, so I was also worried because I was afraid of not being able to complete the task because… I was too big.”
