Continued US attacks against pro-Iranian armed groups in Iraq are prompting Baghdad to consider ending the mission of the Washington-led coalition against the Islamic State (IS) group, Prime Minister Yahya Rasool's military spokesman said on February 8.

"This path pushes the government to end the coalition mission, which has become a destabilizing factor and risks dragging Iraq into a spiral of conflict," the spokesman said.
The US currently has 2,500 troops in Iraq advising and assisting local forces to prevent the rise of IS.
Since the Israel-Hamas conflict erupted last October, Iraq and Syria have seen almost daily tit-for-tat attacks between Iran-backed militias and US forces stationed in the region.
