Every heritage and cultural relic, both public and private, needs to be given more opportunities and exhibition spaces to tell its own stories.
Tay Nguyen antiques have the opportunity to tell their stories at Tay Nguyen Paradise 2023 |
In fact, the work of collecting, preserving, and preserving cultural relics continues to be carried out daily by public museums as well as private collectors, contributing to spreading the useful values of relics to the community. Public museums, with State resources and the capacity of professional staff, have many advantages in preserving and promoting values: history, culture, education, tourism... through museum activities. In addition, the collections of relics of private collectors, with a rich number of artifacts, are quality pieces, supplementing the public museum system, creating more cultural destinations, stimulating tourism, attracting visitors to experience and enjoy the extremely valuable cultural heritages and relics created by generations of predecessors.
Mr. Dang Minh Tam - a collector of cultural artifacts of the indigenous ethnic minority communities of the Central Highlands, believes that behind each artifact is a cultural story. Each slingshot, gong, jar, and crossbow... is not only a personal memory of the collector, but also contains many spiritual values: the manufacturing method, daily uses, and the sacredness hidden inside the artifact. "We can also read the cultural codes of ethnic groups through the artifacts, thereby understanding more about the unique features in the customs of the indigenous ethnic minority communities of the Central Highlands. Simple but extremely profound!", shared Dang Minh Tam, a collector of cultural artifacts of the indigenous ethnic minority communities of the Central Highlands.
The presence of private antique collections like that of Mr. Dang Minh Tam is contributing to spreading the historical and cultural values of antiques, creating diversity in the way people and tourists approach museums. Discussing with a number of private antique collectors in Da Lat and Bao Loc about the question "why not open a private antique museum?", most of them answered: "We do not lack artifacts. We have more than enough passion. But what we lack is the resources to invest in facilities, specialized human resources, operating costs, and legal regulations...".
According to these private antique collectors, for a private antique museum to be established, many factors are required. In addition to the facilities for preservation, there must also be funding for appraisal activities by experts, funding for collecting antiques, funding for building exhibition spaces, funding for investment in scientific and technological applications for preservation... Therefore, the State needs a support fund for private museums, or private collections. The State also needs to issue policies to guide units with financial resources to invest and pay attention to the cultural activities of private antique collectors. Private antique collectors need to be supported by State agencies in professional training, regularly updated with tourism information, and sharing of technology applications for preserving artifacts... so that private antique collections can promote the values of ancient cultural heritage in contemporary life, blending in with the development flow of the country.
