Tan Hong basically completes the criteria for building a new rural district.

DTO - Previously, Tan Hong district had a low socio-economic starting point, mainly agricultural production, and limited resources to support and invest in implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Development (NTM). However, the Party Committee, government and people of Tan Hong district have constantly strived, overcome difficulties, been proactive, creative, operated flexibly, focused on directing the drastic implementation and basically completed the goals of building a new rural district.

Farmers in Tan Ho Co commune (Tan Hong district) use mechanization in rice harvesting, contributing to reducing losses and increasing profits in agricultural production.

Currently, the socio-economic situation of Tan Hong district has achieved many outstanding results in various fields, infrastructure (transportation, irrigation, schools, etc.). The intellectual level and health of the people have been gradually improved. In particular, the economic sector has developed positively, the growth rate of some key economic sectors is stable, the average income per capita reaches more than 64 million VND/person/year in 2024. In addition, the economic structure is shifting in the right direction, gradually reducing the proportion of agriculture - forestry - fishery, gradually increasing the proportion of industry - construction, trade - services. Up to now, the agricultural sector accounts for nearly 52%, the industrial - construction sector accounts for more than 15% and trade - services accounts for over 32%.

The Party committees, authorities, agencies, units and localities of the district pay close attention and issue many policies to promote agricultural and rural development in accordance with local conditions and resources. In the agricultural sector, people have boldly transformed the structure of crops and livestock towards improving productivity and quality of products, expanding joint ventures and linkages along the value chain. Applying scientific and technical advances to production, using varieties with high productivity, quality and economic efficiency, producing high-quality rice, renovating mixed gardens, converting ineffective rice-growing land to aquaculture and growing high-value crops...

A typical example is the model of "Rice production according to the value chain, applying mechanization in key fields" deployed at Hoa Phat Agricultural Service Cooperative (Tan Ho Co commune) with a scale of 111 hectares with 43 participating households, implemented from the summer-autumn crop in 2021. Farmers participating in the model synchronously apply technical measures "1 must, 5 reductions" to achieve an average yield of 5.8 tons/ha, after deducting all costs, farmers have a profit of nearly 10 million VND/ha/crop.

Or the model "Using organic fertilizers in safe rice production" implemented in Thi hamlet, Thong Binh commune with a scale of 2 hectares. The fields of the model "Using organic fertilizers in safe rice production" are mainly fertilized with earthworm organic fertilizer (650 kg/ha), while the same rice area is used as a control using earthworm organic fertilizer (500 kg/ha) and supplemented with inorganic fertilizer, thereby the rice yield of the control area does not have a big difference, the average yield is 5.37 tons/ha but the profit of the rice area implementing the model is nearly 15.5 million VND/ha/crop.

Regarding the social sector in building a new rural district, the education and training indicators, notably the quality of education, have many positive changes, the work of mobilizing and maintaining the number of students at all levels, preventing and combating dropouts have all achieved good results. The school system is arranged and organized in a streamlined manner, with stable operational efficiency. The network of schools and classes has been invested in and merged according to the roadmap; information technology has been well applied in management, teaching and learning. The scale of schools and classes continues to be consolidated and developed to meet the needs of students at all levels; teaching equipment and supplies are invested in and purchased. Training and fostering professional qualifications to improve the management and direction capacity of the management staff is always focused on. The work of encouraging learning and talent, many good models in localities have been replicated, contributing to improving people's knowledge and nurturing local talents. In general, implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Construction, Tan Hong district has mobilized 4,590 billion VND to invest in completing the criteria, contributing to significantly changing the appearance of the border area.

Up to now, Tan Hong has basically met the criteria of a new-style rural district and 8/8 communes of Tan Hong district have been recognized as meeting the new-style rural standards. Currently, all communes maintain meeting the new-style rural standards according to the National Criteria for New-style Rural Communes for the period 2021 - 2025 according to Decision No. 318 dated March 8, 2022, Decision No. 211 dated March 1, 2024 of the Prime Minister and Decision No. 863 dated August 8, 2022, Decision No. 467 dated June 6, 2024 of the People's Committee of Dong Thap province.
