(LĐ online) - Although it is not yet March, in the Southern Central Highlands, it is the season for bees to collect honey, because coffee flowers are blooming white and fragrant all over the hillsides.

These days, from the coffee capital of Di Linh to the deep area of Dam Rong, from the land at the foot of Min Tram Hanh mountain to Ta Nung commune of Da Lat city and stretching to Lam Ha district, coffee flowers are blooming together after proactive watering and timely "golden" rains.

Flowers bloom in the garden far away, flowers bloom around the house. Throughout the gardens, the scent of coffee wafts into every corner of the house.

"White snow" carpet of coffee flowers covers the highland

For the people of the Central Highlands, the coffee blossom season is not only a time when the land and sky become more pristinely beautiful, but also a signal for the upcoming harvest. Because for experienced farmers, just by looking at the amount of flowers blooming, they can somewhat predict the results of the next year's harvest.

The small house of Mrs. Tran Thi Huong (Hamlet 2, Ro Men Commune, Dam Rong District) is surrounded by a coffee garden right next to her house. Excitedly looking at 2 hectares of white coffee flowers blooming among green leaves in the golden January sunlight, Mrs. Huong said: “Our family has only watered the plants once and the flowers have bloomed like this. Only when watering or raining can the coffee plants bloom simultaneously, but if watering the roots, the flowers will bloom unevenly. If there is nothing unusual, with the current amount of flowers blooming evenly, it is almost certain that 100% of the fruit will be set. Normally, we wait 1 week to 10 days for the flowers to fade, then water again and focus on picking buds and fertilizing the plants.”

Currently, the whole commune of Ro Men has over 1,500 hectares of coffee with more than 1,800 households growing it. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Dung - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ro Men commune said: "Coffee is identified as a key crop for local economic development. At a time when coffee prices are still increasing and showing no signs of cooling down, farmers are excited because the flowers are blooming regularly, promising a bumper crop. People also pay more attention to taking care of coffee trees, especially investing in machinery, ensuring adequate water supply for coffee trees during flowering and fruiting."

Coffee flower season is also the season when bees go to collect honey.
The pristine beauty of coffee flowers signals an upcoming bumper crop.

In Village 4, Tan Thuong Commune, Di Linh District, even during the days of the Lunar New Year, Mr. K'Tep still did not forget to go up and down the hill, monitoring the situation of his family's coffee garden and the surrounding gardens. He said: "Coffee flowers bloom depending on each year, if it rains early, the coffee flowers bloom twice, if it rains less, they bloom 2-3 times and after blooming for about a week, the flowers fall and bear fruit. In our locality, the terrain is mainly steep hills, we have to water the roots, we cannot water the pipes, so people have to be proactive in watering. When it rains, we are happy because it reduces labor, reduces costs and the flowers bloom evenly, but it has to be at the right time, because if the flowers bloom in the morning and it rains in the afternoon, the flowers will all be damaged."

Since mid-February, rains have begun to appear in some localities in Di Linh district, bringing joy and excitement to farmers.

The childhood of children in the Central Highlands is attached to coffee gardens.

In 2024, coffee growers in many places in Lam Dong province suffered from drought, so productivity also decreased. Therefore, as soon as the harvest season ended, farmers quickly "restored" the coffee trees by pruning branches, fertilizing, watering... to help the trees sprout and grow, preparing for a new crop.

The diligent hands, taking care of a flower season, both fluttering with the rain and sunshine, and applying the experience of many years of attachment to coffee trees to flexibly change according to the weather and the land. And each carpet of "white snow" covering the plateau these days is like a worthy reward for that care, expectation, and dedication.
