With the theme “Vietnam – The Country on the Shore”, on the evening of August 8, at the Cultural Center of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the People's Committee of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province organized the opening ceremony of the National Library Staff Festival to promote the development of reading culture and introduce books about Vietnam's sovereignty over seas and islands.

Nearly 700 candidates, representing more than 10,000 people working in libraries and culture of 63 provinces, cities, and armed forces libraries nationwide.
This Librarians' Festival aims to promote and disseminate documents, books and newspapers about the position, role and sovereignty of Vietnam's seas and islands. Thereby, contributing to raising awareness and responsibility of all levels, sectors and people, especially the young generation, about the strategic position and role of the seas, islands and borders and territories in socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security; arousing love for the homeland and country, national pride, awareness of protecting sovereignty and territorial integrity, the desire to contribute, build and develop a prosperous and happy country.
The books introduced by the library delegations at the Festival are a rich and diverse source of documents, currently stored and served to readers at libraries, providing viewers with comprehensive and updated information about the sea and islands; the potential and strengths of Vietnam's sea and islands; the management, exploitation and protection of Vietnam's sea and island sovereignty in the current complex and tense international and regional context.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Trinh Thi Thuy, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that the National Library Staff Festival to promote reading culture and introduce books in 2023 with the theme: "Vietnam - Country on the shore" is an opportunity for librarians to apply book introduction skills, promote documents on the history, position, role, potential and strengths of the sea and islands; on awareness of protecting marine resources and environment; awareness of protecting national sovereignty at sea; promoting achievements, honoring advanced examples from the development of the homeland's marine and island economy.
The Librarians Festival is a useful playground, a place to express love for the profession, an extremely valuable opportunity to exchange professional experiences, to learn and inspire good practices, new and creative ideas in the journey of bringing books to readers. The festival is also one of many activities to strengthen, innovate, and apply information technology in propaganda work, bringing about truly strong effectiveness and influence, contributing to encouraging reading and promoting the development of reading culture in the community.
Deputy Minister Trinh Thi Thuy requested that libraries continue to promote the application of information technology and digital transformation associated with the innovation of communication work on cyberspace, widely promoting the Festival programs in localities, so that books and newspapers are introduced and truly brought into life; especially applying initiatives and effective book and newspaper service models to be implemented in accordance with the reality in localities. The members of the Delegation participating in the propaganda at the Festival must truly become the core, the vanguard force in carrying out the noble mission of the library sector - that is, bringing knowledge and information to the community, contributing to creating conditions for people in coastal and island areas in particular and people in regions and areas across the country to have equal opportunities in accessing information and knowledge, developing self-study capacity, contributing to improving people's knowledge, developing reading culture and building a learning society.
By staging with the support of sound, light and information technology applications, the delegations participating in the Festival vividly and creatively expressed and conveyed the content of the book to readers through 4 main parts: introducing the team, introducing the book, introducing an experience initiative in improving the effectiveness of propaganda work for books, newspapers and documents on Vietnam's sea and island sovereignty, or introducing an effective model of serving books, newspapers and documents, developing a reading culture for people in local sea and island areas and talent competition.
With their experience, talent and knowledge, combined with their passion for their profession, librarians and cultural workers from provinces and cities have brought to the audience many attractive, unique and high-quality programs and performances, creating a great influence, leaving many impressive emotions, contributing to the overall success of the Festival.
Within the framework of the activities of the 2023 Book Promotion and Introduction Festival, a number of domestic publishers and bookstores participated in displaying good and new books and gave valuable book gifts to the library delegations participating in the Festival.
The Library Staff Festival takes place from August 7-11, 2023 at the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Provincial Cultural Center.
