Mr. Dang Xuan Dinh (1919 - 2016) is the 11th generation of the Dang family in Hanh Thien village (Nam Dinh). The elder brother of teacher Dang Xuan Dinh is Mr. Truong Chinh, also known as Dang Xuan Khu. Mr. Dinh's parents' family has 10 children from 2 mothers.

Mr. Dinh, like Mr. Truong Chinh, was the eldest son of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tu (daughter of a bachelor who was a military mandarin named Nguyen Duc Ban), from the same village of Hanh Thien. Mr. Dang Xuan Vien married Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tu and had two sons and three daughters, and Mr. Dinh was the third child.

Born into a family with a tradition of studiousness and teaching, Mr. Dang Xuan Dinh could only finish primary school because of his family's difficult circumstances. At the age of 17, Mr. Dinh took the entrance exam and passed the entrance exam to Hai Phong Technical School because this school offered scholarships, so he did not have to worry about tuition fees.

This indirectly shows the simple lifestyle and sometimes difficult life of the family of the late General Secretary Truong Chinh, even though during the land reform, his parents were once classified as landlords.

In 1937, while studying at Hai Phong Technical School, he was enlightened about the revolution. He was the link between the Party organization and his brother Truong Chinh from 1940 to 1945.

After the August Revolution, Mr. Dang Xuan Dinh worked at the Nam Dinh Engineering Workshop, then went to Hanoi to work as director of the printing workshop of the Truth Publishing House.

During the national resistance war, he accepted a job at the Military Ordnance Department (Ministry of Defense). He worked in mechanical engineering and this job lasted for 7 years in the mountains of Viet Bac. Due to his innovative contributions, he was assigned additional tasks to serve the campaigns without any position, even though at that time his brother was the General Secretary of the Party.

In 1953, he was sent to the Soviet Union to study at the Moscow Mining University in the field of underground mining. Initially, he encountered many difficulties due to his poor high school knowledge and limited Russian, but surprisingly, by the second year, he had good results, even completing the university course 1 month ahead of his classmates.

In 1959, he returned to Vietnam and taught at the Faculty of Mining and Metallurgy (Hanoi University of Science and Technology), later changed to the Faculty of Mining and Geology.

He was sent back to the Soviet Union to continue studying for 2 years (1964 - 1965) as an intern. Of the 10 people who went to study, only he completed his research topic 1 month earlier than when he graduated from university.

He defended his thesis at the Department of Underground Mining (Moscow Mining University). The thesis was assessed as having the level of a doctoral thesis of the Soviet Union (now called a doctorate).

Don't want to "ask anyone, remind anyone"

But due to the regulations of our country at that time, doing scientific internships like him was not allowed to defend his thesis. He also did not ask to stay to defend it, even though as the younger brother of the General Secretary, he could have done so.

Also because of this, later, when the State had standards for university teaching, teacher Dang Xuan Dinh also encountered many difficulties due to lack of academic degrees and titles.

People's Teacher Dang Xuan Dinh

In 1966, Mr. Dang Xuan Dinh, who was then the Head of the Faculty of Mining and Geology, was assigned to establish the University of Mining and Geology, which was separated from the Faculty of Mining and Geology. Mr. Dang Xuan Dinh was assigned to be the Vice-Rector and Principal of the University, and then became the Acting Principal of the University for another 6 years.

Until the Minister of Universities and Vocational Secondary Schools Nguyen Dinh Tu took office, discovered this irony, issued a notice recognizing Mr. Dang Xuan Dinh as the official principal since the establishment of the University of Mining and Geology. That is, by then, Mr. Dinh was recognized to have been the principal for 12 years.

The decision of the then Chairman of the State Council Vo Chi Cong (at this time, Mr. Truong Chinh had ceased to hold the position of head of state) also awarded him the title of Excellent Teacher as principal.

The Ministry also agreed with the school's scientific council to propose the title of professor to Meritorious Teacher Dang Xuan Dinh in the most recent review. Minister Nguyen Dinh Tu also proposed to open a special council to recognize the previous work Mr. Dang Xuan Dinh completed in the Soviet Union, "Research on the deformation of the coal seam foundation with the condition of horizontal coal seam with a cylindrical layer of clay" as a doctoral thesis.

Unfortunately, before it could be implemented, Professor - Doctor of Science Nguyen Dinh Tu transferred to a new position as a member of the State Council, so it was abandoned. The Ministry did not implement it, and Mr. Dinh once again did not want to "ask anyone, remind anyone"...

In November 1977, due to poor health, Mr. Dang Xuan Dinh retired early (more than 1 year). He was the author of nearly 20 scientific works, directly wrote a number of teaching textbooks in universities, participated in compiling the Vietnamese Dictionary , the Mining - Geology Dictionary ... and valuable early research works, serving the development of the mining - geology industry of the country.

Martyr political commissar of the battalion Dang Xuan Duong

Revolutionary veteran, People's Teacher Dang Xuan Dinh had 3 children. The only son was Dang Xuan Chieu. He volunteered to join the army when he was only 17 years old and heroically sacrificed himself on the Laos front as a special forces officer.

Previously, the Corps Command had intended to send him for training because they knew that his uncle was the Chairman of the National Assembly Standing Committee, Truong Chinh. However, he refused, determined to go to the battlefield and died while performing international duties in Laos.

The late General Secretary Truong Chinh and Mr. Dang Xuan Dinh also had a half-brother named Dang Xuan Duong. Mr. Duong was a lecturer at Hanoi Pedagogical University and Deputy Secretary of the School's Youth Union. He joined the army in 1965 under the "3 ready" movement when he was not married or had children. He died in 1972 while he was a captain and political commissar of a battalion at the Quang Tri front.

The old story is now told to see that in the family of the late General Secretary Truong Chinh, even though his elder brother had such high power and position (at one time he was Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly or Chairman of the State Council), his younger brothers (Mr. Dang Xuan Dinh, Mr. Dang Xuan Duong...) or his son (Dr. Dang Viet Bac, who was studying abroad, was also called back by him to do military service in 1971), and his nephew (Dang Xuan Chieu, who had only one son but still asked to go to the battlefield) still lived and worked with the same duties and responsibilities as any normal citizen, without any "children of the powerful" privileges or benefits.

Mr. Truong Chinh did not have the slightest influence as a senior leader of the country so that his blood relatives could enjoy privileges in promotion and appointment.

Even in the case of the son of the late General Secretary Truong Chinh, who was elected as an alternate member of the 4th Central Committee (1986), Professor Dang Xuan Ky, who was proven to be completely worthy in both intelligence and morality, the Central Committee and the Politburo had to persuade him for a long time to agree to run for election.

Late Professor Dang Xuan Ky, former Chairman of the Vietnam Social Science Committee, former Director of the Institute of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought, former Permanent Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council. He was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Social Sciences.
