Increase quotas, no restrictions on university admission methods in 2025

Many schools increase admission combinations

This is one of the notable new points for candidates taking part in the university entrance exam this year when the Ministry of Education and Training no longer limits the number of admission combinations for each training program of universities. This year, the first batch of candidates studying under the 2018 General Education Program will take the high school graduation exam. According to regulations, candidates will take 2 compulsory subjects: Math, Literature and 2 elective subjects out of 9 subjects, including: Foreign Language, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economic and Legal Education, Information Technology, Technology.

With the above number of subjects and selection methods, 36 combinations can be used for university admission. To adapt to the innovation in the number of subjects and exam formats, many universities have adjusted the admission combinations, especially with subjects such as Information Technology and Technology, which are prioritized by many schools to be included in the new admission combinations. Specifically, Hanoi University of Science and Technology admits Information Technology in the new combination K01. This combination includes Math, Literature combined with 1 of 4 subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Information Technology. In which, the admission score calculation formula multiplies the coefficient 3 with Math, the coefficient 1 for Literature and the coefficient 2 for the remaining subjects.

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son said that many universities changing the admission combination is not against the regulations. Therefore, the candidates' job is to study according to their abilities and strengths. The schools recruit according to the set requirements, the software system will select the best information for the candidates. In addition, highereducation institutions will have to recruit according to the combination suitable for the training major and the set requirements.

Military and Police schools increase enrollment targets

The good news for candidates this year is that military and police schools have reserved many enrollment quotas for the civilian system. The Military Admissions Board, Ministry of National Defense, has just announced the enrollment quota for 20 military schools in 2025, the total expected quota for the military system is about 4,400, the civilian system is about 3,500. Thus, after a 6-year hiatus, military schools will return to enrolling civilian students with a fairly large enrollment quota of 3,500. For the military system, candidates are required to participate in the preliminary selection, while for the civilian system, students can register directly for admission to the schools, without having to go through the preliminary selection. According to Colonel Do Thanh Tam, Secretary of the Military Admissions Board (Ministry of National Defense), after the Ministry of Education and Training announces the regulations, schools can expand new admission combinations so that both candidates studying the 2006 program and the 2018 program have the opportunity to apply, in which priority will be given to combinations with English subjects to suit the training goals and requirements of the schools.

In 2025, the Ministry of Public Security will allocate 2,200 regular university and college enrollment targets for 8 police schools in 2025 for undergraduate majors. There will be 300 intermediate-level targets and 850 second-degree targets. The People's Security Academy will increase its regular enrollment targets by 30 compared to last year, with a total of 440 targets (last year, there were 410 targets). Of which, the Security profession group will have 290 targets (Male: 261; Female: 29). Notably, the school will also recruit 100 Information Technology students under a cooperation program with Hanoi University of Science and Technology and 150 targets for the second-degree program.

In 2025, Hanoi National University of Education plans to enroll 4,995 students in 50 majors and regular university training programs in 9 fields, including 5 new majors: Biotechnology, Physics (Semiconductor Physics and Engineering), History, Sociology, Vietnamese Language and Culture.

Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 has just announced that this year, the school will recruit 4,131 students for 26 training majors, more than double the total number of students compared to last year. Along with that, the school will use 10 admission methods to create conditions for candidates to use their strengths in the selection process.
