In a commentary published on Kitco News, the expert said that gold futures have risen significantly recently, mainly due to concerns about President Trump's new tariffs and their potential economic impact. After a notable rally, recent price action suggests that a correction may be coming. Investors are increasingly concerned that the tariffs imposed by the United States will push up consumer prices and accelerate inflation. This concern has put downward pressure on the US dollar index.
The rise in gold futures prices since December 18, 2024, reflects the cumulative impact of several concurrent concerns. Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and Ukraine, inflationary pressures, rising U.S. debt, and the implementation of Trump’s tariff policies have all contributed to market volatility. The combination of these factors has pushed gold futures from around $2,620 an ounce to $3,065 an ounce this month—a significant 17% increase.
While the fundamental drivers behind gold’s rally remain intact, recent price action suggests that market participants should prepare for a potential correction. Such pullbacks are typical in long-term bull markets and can present strategic opportunities for investors with a longer-term view.
