The desire to contribute must become the reason for young people to live. This is gradually becoming familiar to many young people, especially when looking back at the 50-year journey of liberating and building the city named after Uncle Ho.

The desire to contribute of the young generation of Ho Chi Minh City is clearly demonstrated through their tireless efforts in the fields of science, technology and culture.
The meeting right before the birthday celebration of the Union this year between the young generation of the past and the young people of Ho Chi Minh City today clearly demonstrated that no matter what time, the youth still choose to commit and move forward.
The desire to contribute and the reason for living of youth is the thread that runs through the generations of young people in the city, the ambition to build and develop the country and Ho Chi Minh City in each period with different contexts and perspectives. Always contribute, always do your best, together we will do better things for the city from this milestone of celebrating half a century of living in peace.
Mr. NGUYEN DANG KHOA (Deputy Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union)
Each era has its own difficulties, it depends on the youth.
Former Con Dao prisoner Tran Thi Truc Chi appeared with a checkered scarf and silver hair sitting among the young people. The former director of the Ho Chi Minh City Children's House was exiled to Con Dao when she was only 16 years old. In her memory, the image of her smile at the historic moment of April 30, 1975 remains forever.
It was also the smile of the liberation army, of the people of Saigon that year. But the city in the early years of liberation had a hundred difficulties. Ms. Chi remembers the image of students teaching night classes for the elderly, and the "Small Plan" movement that contributed to building the Thong Nhat train.
"Everyone enthusiastically participated and competed to achieve results for the common goal of building the country," said Ms. Chi.
Mr. Lam Van Tiep (former deputy head of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee's Organization Board) said that each era has its own difficulties. For the youth of the 1980-1986 period, the ideal of life and the desire to contribute was nothing other than actively participating in the common renovation of the entire nation.
He was happy to see many movements and initiatives for technical improvement coming from the youth. There were machines that had been in storage and broken for a long time but were repaired by the young people of that time to serve production.
He said there are always generations of young people who are patriotic, creative and always know how to solve difficult problems.
"The youth being the vanguard of the revolution has always been a truth from ancient times and has been affirmed and proven by history. The vanguard role of the youth is very important and no matter what time period, that spirit will help overcome all difficulties," said Mr. Tiep.

Dedication and sweet fruit
The sharing of the "seniors" is like a fire that adds light to the desire to contribute that is already present in the hearts of young people. Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh - Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Young Scientists Club - talked about the research results in the fields of health, environment, and agriculture that he and his colleagues are tirelessly pursuing.
Founder and CEO of Vietnam Chatbot Technology Company Le Anh Tien said that chatbots are valued in millions of USD and are present in Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines with over 10 million users.
"I think we should start with small things, from small ideas we will implement, test, and evaluate to create big premises. When each person perseveres with each idea, the product will be a catalyst, contributing to help the city innovate in the field of science and technology," Mr. Tien expressed.
Female student Nguyen Khanh Van (Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted) believes that today's students are not indifferent but highly respect the history and traditions of their nation. Especially in the context of studying to develop themselves, aiming towards the role of global citizens.
Meanwhile, Phan Nguyen Cat Tuong (high school student leader) confided that she had tried her best when she won second prize in the city-level geography competition last school year. The title of city-wide high school student leader also marked her efforts to learn knowledge, gain experience, and have strong self-confidence.
Nguyen Quoc Trung (Outstanding Young Citizen of Ho Chi Minh City 2024) said he always tries and reminds himself to contribute his youth and knowledge to the city's development.
The sweet fruit is not only 11 articles published in prestigious scientific journals at home and abroad, but also the research topic of utilizing creeping daisy grass, an invasive alien grass that causes ecological imbalance and grows in the suburbs of Ho Chi Minh City.
The results of the synthesis of nano silver have been tested and met the requirements, helping Trung create a nano silver solution with strong antibacterial properties, non-toxic, contributing to protecting and improving the ecological environment.
The research journey continued with the discovery of essential oil from the white starfruit tree that has the potential to fight against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus when Trung was a volunteer Spring soldier in Can Gio district (HCMC).
While Pseudomonas aeruginosa, if it invades the body, can cause urinary tract infections, meningitis, endocarditis, otitis media, pneumonia, Staphylococcus aureus causes food poisoning, skin infections, blood infections...
And Quoc Trung is proud to mention the research on the CHID1 gene mechanism, using natural compounds to prevent the metastasis and growth of glioblastoma cells as a link in his journey of dedication.
Go to return to contribute to the homeland
Master Mai Nguyen Dung (University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City) confided that he has a special love for Ho Chi Minh City, the place where he was born and raised. That love has led him to visit many museums in the city, and read books and newspapers to understand more about this place.
Having studied for a master's degree in the Netherlands and received a very attractive job offer, he chose to return to live and work in the place where he has devoted his love and desire to contribute his small efforts to the further development of this city.
"I realize that I have to try harder. In addition to teaching, I participate in Youth Union activities, research and accompany students more. I feel that I am receiving a lot in return from my desire to contribute because I am learning, living happily and improving myself every day," Mr. Dung confided.
