People's Artist Vu Kim Dung, famous poetry reciter of the program Poetry, passed away.

Artist Trinh Thu Huong, daughter of artist Vu Kim Dung, said her mother passed away at 7:10 a.m. (Prague time, or 1:10 p.m. Vietnam time) on March 26.

Poet Hong Thanh Quang said she died after a period of fighting a serious illness.

Despite having to fight illness, artist Vu Kim Dung is still actively involved in artistic activities serving the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic as well as in European countries with her daughter's family.

In 2024, Mr. Hong Thanh Quang collaborated with her family to organize a poetry and music program in Prague, Czech Republic.

Artist Vu Kim Dung was born in 1945 in Nam Dinh. At the age of 16, she was selected to join the Central Opera Troupe when the troupe was on tour and recruiting in Nam Dinh.

In 1968, she began collaborating with the Poetry section of Voice of Vietnam, becoming a unique reciter, much admired by Voice of Vietnam listeners, alongside the station's favorite reciters such as Tran Thi Tuyet, Chau Loan, Linh Nham, and Kim Cuc.

Ms. Vu Kim Dung officially joined the Voice of Vietnam's art department in November 1972. Since then, along with serving the radio waves and performing for audiences across the country, she has also contributed to training many generations of students.

Not stopping at her passion for reciting poetry, Ms. Vu Kim Dung also spent 10 years learning Ca Tru from two artists Quach Thi Ho and Nguyen Thi Phuc.

In 2000, she retired from Voice of Vietnam, but continued her artistic activities.

Ms. Vu Kim Dung organized a recording to record her voice reciting the entire work Truyen Kieu , preserving it to present to Voice of Vietnam Radio on the occasion of its 70th anniversary.

In 2015, she published the book The Road to the Art of Poetry and Ca Tru published by Hanoi Publishing House. In her final years, Ms. Dung moved to Prague, Czech Republic to live with her daughter, singer Trinh Thu Huong.

She continued to work with her daughter's performance company to create many art programs to serve the Vietnamese community in Eastern and Western European countries, and participated in art programs organized by Vietnamese embassies in other countries.

With his career in reciting poetry and singing Ca Tru, artist Vu Kim Dung has won two gold medals. in the 1985 National Music and Dance Festival for the recitation of the poem Vietnamese Bamboo (Nguyen Duy) and singing the song Spring without age (Xuan Thuy) .

In 2014, she was awarded the Medal for Civil Service.

In 1993, artist Vu Kim Dung was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist. In 2024, she was awarded the title of People's Artist.
