Hue to become 'top cultural heritage' destination

On the evening of March 25, the opening ceremony of the National Tourism Year - Hue 2025 officially took place on the stage on the bank of the Perfume River in front of Quoc Hoc School (12 Le Loi, Hue City), with the theme "Hue - Ancient Capital, New Opportunities".

Hue tourism will become the destination of "the leading cultural heritage of Vietnam and the region"

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh shared that tourism is a key economic sector, not only contributing to creating jobs, improving income for millions of workers, helping many households in remote areas escape poverty, bringing a new look, reviving relics after years of slumber, but also promoting cooperation, cultural exchange, international integration, building friendship, preserving peace, helping the unique cultural values ​​of the nation to be promoted, deeply absorbed, and spread domestically and internationally. In just two years 2023 and 2024, Vietnam's tourism has recovered spectacularly, far exceeding the planned target and becoming one of the bright spots of the economy.

“Today, in the joyful and proud atmosphere when Hue was recognized as a centrally-governed city; we all gathered in the ancient capital, the land that crystallizes long-standing cultural values, where the sacred soul of the nation is preserved. The event is even more meaningful when it takes place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Hue's liberation, a heroic historical milestone, marking the indomitable spirit of the nation. The opening ceremony is the opening event for a series of cultural, sports and tourism activities taking place throughout the provinces and cities across the country, promising to turn Hue into a tourism and cultural center of Vietnam and the region, contributing to promoting and inspiring people to travel, creating momentum to promote the tourism industry to recover and develop quickly and sustainably,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the National Tourism Year - Hue 2025 is not simply a purely cultural tourism event, but also an emotional journey, a trip back in history to touch the endless beauty of the ancient capital; is an affirmation that Hue is not only a city of history but also a bright spot of the future, a unique cultural tourism center of the whole country, a symbol of innovation and development based on the strength of heritage, elegance, gentleness, and hospitality of each person here.

“We believe that, with the special attention of the Party and State; with the dynamism, creativity and high determination of Party committees at all levels, authorities, business communities and people, Hue tourism will become a destination of “the leading cultural heritage in Vietnam and the region”, making an increasingly important contribution to the development of the country, bringing happiness to the people, contributing to the development of Vietnamese culture and Vietnamese civilization to last forever, shining in the flow of human civilization”, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.

6 key tasks

On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh requested the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, ministries, sectors, Hue City and localities across the country to continue promoting the achievements, strive to overcome difficulties and challenges, and proactively continue to coordinate to effectively implement a number of key tasks.

Firstly, implementing comprehensive and synchronous solutions on planning and attracting investment to create unique and classy tourism products associated with unique cultural heritage values.

Second, promote digital transformation, apply technology to effectively communicate and promote tourism in Hue in particular and the Central Coast region in general, as well as the whole country; create new space for tourism development, minimize impacts on the environment, natural resources, landscapes and heritage.

Third, focus on building a civilized, friendly and sustainable tourism environment; promote green transformation; strongly promote cultural heritage values ​​to boost tourism, taking tourism as the foundation to preserve, embellish and promote local heritage values.

Fourth, training and developing tourism human resources, especially equipping vocational skills and forming a professional tourism mindset.

Fifth, strengthen links and cooperation between localities, creating a series of destinations "Ancient Capital Journey", in which Hue must be the driving force and highlight to attract tourists.

Sixth, focus on developing tourism infrastructure, improving services, ensuring a safe tourism environment; at the same time, continue to promote the preservation and promotion of heritage values ​​so that Hue City is always an attractive destination on the international tourism map. Pay attention to building a cultural lifestyle, civilized and friendly behavior so that "Every Hue citizen is truly an ambassador of culture and tourism"; be responsible for preserving and protecting the environment and landscape because that is the source of life for today and tomorrow.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong - Chairman of Hue City People's Committee, hosting the National Tourism Year 2025 is an opportunity for Hue to introduce its cultural, historical and natural beauty to domestic and foreign tourists; a strong determination to continue preserving, honoring and spreading traditional cultural values; at the same time, it is an opportunity for Hue to affirm its aspiration to rise up, innovate and create, towards a sustainable development future in the new era - the era of national growth.

“Hue wishes and commits to bringing a vibrant tourism year with a series of events, festivals, and unique art programs to honor heritage values, while creating opportunities for visitors to experience the harmonious combination of tradition and modernity,” Mr. Phuong shared.

The opening art program of the National Tourism Year 2025 has the theme "Confession of the River", including 3 chapters: Legend of a River; Converging Rivers; New Flow of Rivers.

More than 800 famous actors, singers, artists and the masses, along with international art troupes from China and Korea, performed, with a series of unique performances, staged grandly, with high artistic quality. The opening night also featured many unique and novel activities such as: light shows using drone light, electronic water drums, water music panorama, flying dragons, flying umbrellas; fireworks...; attracting thousands of people and tourists to enjoy.

The 2025 National Tourism Year in Hue has about 170 activities, including 8 national-level activities. Hue City expects to attract 4.8 - 5 million visitors this year, of which international visitors account for 38 - 40%, bringing in revenue of 10,800 - 11,200 billion VND.
