Being a province with a large population of ethnic minorities, some units and localities have a large population of Khmer and Cham ethnic minorities such as: Tri Ton District, An Phu, Chau Thanh, Thoai Son, Tinh Bien Town, Tan Chau Town, Chau Doc City... These are also the places with the most developed ethnic sports movements. Traditional sports competitions are maintained and organized regularly every year, attracting a large number of people to participate such as: Pushing sticks, tug of war, cross-country running, boat racing, Chinese chess, water-holding teams...
To promote the strength of physical training and sports among ethnic minorities, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism always coordinates with all levels, sectors and localities to promote propaganda, support professional competitions, restore and preserve folk games and ethnic sports. In particular, organizing competitions integrating ethnic sports into holidays, Tet, and local Sports Festivals, in order to create a useful playground for ethnic minorities. The most prominent is Bull Racing. This traditional sport has long been an indispensable unique cultural and sporting activity of the Khmer ethnic minorities in the Bay Nui region. On the occasion of the annual Sene Dolta festival, the authorities of Tinh Bien town and Tri Ton district organize Bull Racing. This is an attractive highlight, attracting the attention of people and tourists.
According to Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Dao Si Tuan: in the coming time, all levels, sectors and units in the province will continue to promote propaganda and raise people's awareness of the significance of regular physical training and sports. At the same time, well implement socialization work, enhance exploitation and effective use of physical training and sports facilities; consolidate and improve the effectiveness of sports clubs, associations and groups in localities, agencies and units; regularly organize diverse and rich physical training and sports activities, contributing to the development of the mass sports movement... Consider ethnic sports as part of the work of preserving traditional cultural beauty, thereby actively organizing ethnic sports competitions and folk games to create a cohesive environment among people in ethnic minority areas.
With synchronous and strategic solutions, promoting sports for everyone and developing ethnic minority sports in An Giang province promises to develop more deeply and substantially.
