The second season of the Capital Alumni Gala will take place at the campus of the former University of General Sciences; now the University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, 19 Le Thanh Tong, Hanoi.

Ms. Nguyen My Trang, a member of the organizing committee, told Tuoi Tre Online that in the 1990s, when the country had just opened up, international music and cultural trends began to be introduced to Vietnam, creating a vibrant cultural atmosphere among young people, especially students in Hanoi.

Young people are passionate about singing The Beatles, Queen, ABBA, Pink Floyd, Boney M, Bee Gees, Deep Purple, Metallica...

Many famous student bands were born, such as Thoi Gian, Co Dai Dai, Cay Vang, Dai Bang Trang, Nhung Nhac Thang, Buc Tuong, Desire, Beatles Xay Dung, Buratinox, The Light, Mutation, Full Astray...

"Student proms began to take shape and develop strongly during that period, initially only within each school, then spreading among universities in Hanoi," said My Trang.

According to her, the years 1992 - 1994 were considered the peak period of student prom culture, with proms taking place almost every week or every month at universities, stadiums, and gymnasiums; attracting the participation of tens of thousands of students from schools, becoming the most popular cultural and entertainment activity for generations 6X, 7X.

Back then, there were many difficulties and shortages, so the parties were not organized professionally, the stage was rudimentary, but the young people still sang and danced tirelessly.

"Organizing the capital's alumni gala, not only relives the beautiful memories of the past, we also want to convey to our children and grandchildren the enthusiasm, passion and the way our parents and uncles lived and were happy in difficult conditions," Ms. My Trang shared.

The singers, bands, and student dance groups of that time are now in their 50s, 60s, and 70s, but their love for music remains intact. They called on each other and spent their own money to organize the program; everyone is a member of the organizing committee. And on the evening of April 12, they will all step onto the stage, playing and singing like they did when they were young.

More than 100 artists participated

According to information at the press conference on the afternoon of March 26, the program had the participation of more than 100 singers, musicians, bands, and dance groups of former students of the capital.

Among them are many familiar names: musician Quoc Trung and the band Phuong Dong, musician Thanh Phuong and the band Thoi Gian, the band Ngua Hoang, musician Luu Ha An, the group ABBA Vietnam, the dance group Big Toe - CO - ZigZag, MC Thao Van, MC Long Vu, "professor" Cu Trong Xoay.

There are also singers Thanh Lam, Thuy Dung, Thanh Tam, Ngo Viet Khoi, Tung John, Nguyen Hoang (The Wall), Le Tien Dat (Full Ashtray), Viet James (Red Tide)...

Musician Quoc Trung said that this gala is an opportunity to meet friends and colleagues, and is also a healthy activity for... the elderly.

The organizers revealed that Quoc Trung and the band Phuong Dong, including singer Thanh Lam, will bring a special performance.

Musician Thanh Phuong and the band Thoi Gian will play a memorable Pink Floyd cover set.

The song We are the world performed by former students of the capital will be performed live on the evening of April 12.
