President: Militia and Self-Defense Forces are a force with a strategic position

On the afternoon of March 26, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense held a ceremony to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Vietnam Militia and Self-Defense Force's Traditional Day (March 28, 1935 - March 28, 2025) and receive the Ho Chi Minh Medal.

President Luong Cuong - Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council, Commander of the People's Armed Forces - attended and delivered a speech.

Militia must be proficient in modern, high-tech weapons.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Luong Cuong affirmed that after 90 years of building, fighting and growing, the militia and guerrilla forces have transformed from being mass armed organizations to becoming a very important part of the Vietnamese people's armed forces.

The force has always completed all tasks well and excellently, making great contributions to the past struggle for national liberation and reunification, as well as the cause of building and firmly defending the Fatherland.

The militia and self-defense force has always been a force with an extremely important strategic position and is the most suitable form of organization to implement the policy of all-people national defense and people's war.

Therefore, we need to attach great importance to building the militia and self-defense force to become the core force of local guerrilla warfare at the grassroots level.

It is necessary to make the militia and self-defense force have a high level of political awareness, be clean and strong, and know how to skillfully use all kinds of weapons, including modern and high-tech weapons, so that they can both fight to protect localities and bases, and be ready to supplement the main force when necessary.

Arrangement of commune-level military cadres in accordance with the local government organization model

The President requested that special attention be paid to building a militia and self-defense force with appropriate numbers, reasonable structure, and increasingly high overall quality, first of all political quality.

Strengthen training and coaching to improve the quality of cadres working in national defense, locality, and militia at all levels. Organize training for militia and self-defense forces in line with the requirements, tasks, organization, equipment, combat readiness, and civil defense of each force, in accordance with the actual conditions of each locality.

Research and propose the arrangement of military cadres at the commune level in accordance with the local government organization model and the new organization and staffing of the army, ensuring sufficient capacity to successfully complete all tasks in all situations.

Strictly implement coordination regulations; proactively grasp the situation, closely coordinate with forces in protecting borders, seas and islands; protect political security, order and social safety at the grassroots level, promote the core role with the entire population in participating in socio-economic development; prevent, combat and overcome the consequences of natural disasters, search and rescue, and non-traditional security issues.
