Launching of 13,000-ton chemical tanker for export to Korea

Today (January 18), Pha Rung Shipbuilding Company Limited launched a 13,000-ton oil/chemical tanker for export to Korea.

The ship with the hull code YN-02 is named "BS ULSAN", the name of a leading industrial city in Korea. These are products of the same series of 13,000-ton oil/chemical tankers newly built for a Korean shipowner.

The "BS ULSAN" is the second ship in a series of 8 oil/chemical tankers that Pha Rung has signed a contract to build for a Korean shipowner. The first ship that Pha Rung handed over at the end of November 2024 is named "BS HAI PHONG" (Hai Phong).

Representatives of the Korean ship owner and Pha Rung Shipbuilding Company cut the cable and launched the ship "BS ULSAN".

The 13,000-ton oil/chemical tanker "BS ULSAN" has an overall length of 128.6m; width of 20.4m; height of 11.5m; draft of 8.7m. The ship was designed by FESDEC - Korea and classified by KR Register.

Pha Rung is a unit with strengths in building new Handysize oil/chemical tankers, trusted by Korean ship owners to order construction.

The ship "BS ULSAN" will be completed and handed over to the shipowner in June 2025. According to the plan, the next ships will be completed and handed over by Pha Rung about 5 months/ship.

Immediately after successfully launching the ship "BS ULSAN", Pha Rung organized the auction of ship number 3 with the hull code YN-03.

Sharing about the construction process, Mr. Vu Huu Chien, General Director of Pha Rung Shipbuilding Company, said that in the first ships, the parties had to face many difficulties, from design modifications, lack of experience of engineers, lack of skills of workers, lack of construction equipment and especially storm No. 3 Yagi which caused great damage, greatly affecting the construction progress and handover of the first ships. At times, the ship owner was worried and concerned about the ability to continue the project.

The 13,000-ton chemical tanker named "BS ULSAN" will continue to be completed after its launch and is expected to be handed over to the ship owner in June 2025.

"With the determination of the team of engineers, workers of the factory and the ship owner, the difficulties were gradually resolved. The good news from the captain of the first ship operating at sea about the excellent quality of the ship has promptly encouraged the project construction team. Now, the launching ceremony of ship number 2 and the start of ship number 3 are a testament to the results of that tireless effort," said Mr. Chien and committed that the quality of the following ships will be increasingly better, the progress will be increasingly shortened.

The General Director of Pha Rung Shipbuilding Company also said that with the construction of 8 oil/chemical tankers this time along with other repair and new construction products, Pha Rung will have jobs and products in the new construction sector until mid-2027.
